The Sado Estuary is one of the most
important wetlands in Portugal. Its
symbol is the Bottlenose Dolphin
(Tursiops truncates), which can be
easily seen from the crossing ferries.
Its wetlands are a listed sanctuary of
international importance with a world-
class bird-watching list which includes
more than 250 species.

Occupying a swirling slope facing
south, its boundary confines with
the fresh water creek of Arez. At
the end of this watercourse, in
the village, there is an old water-
powered gritsmill that until recently
supplied the local baker with flour.
The ALCACER VINtage is reached by
car through this stunning road
The resort is located right next
to the upcoming golf course of
the ART & GOLF RESORT (www.
alcacergolf.com) and next to the
village of Arez.
It can be reached directly from
the National Road IC1, through a
traffic-free road surrounded on
both sides by monumental Stone
Pines that suggest an ambiance
of boulevard. In addition to a
few mature Cork Oaks, this type
of conifer is truly the dominant
vegetation on the property.

Rooted in the regions characteristic
winemaking tradition, the concept
combines the beauty of the vine
landscape and the pleasure of
gardening, with outstanding
oenology and gastronomy. The main
anchor of the retreat is a Winery
Building, which can offer property
owners the possibility of harvesting
and vinifying their own grapes, from
barrel aging to bottling, assisted by
a leading Portuguese oenologist,
and associated to outstanding
Winemaker, which we propose to be
Jos辿 da Mota Capit達o.
In addition to winemaking, the retreat
can offer Eco-Farming and Gardening
hosted by a Bio-farmer specialist,
which we propose to be Jos辿 Arantes.
Long-stay residential tourists can
enjoy gardening and farming in the
inner gardens surrounding individual
plots in their absence kept and
harvested by ALCACER VINTAGE.
Entertainment Farming includes a
variety of organic vegetables, cereals,
flowers, trees, aromatic vegetables
and mushrooms. In general, crops
cultivated vary according to the area,
influenced by culture and tradition.
Given the nature of residential
tourism, short-cycle crops are
preferred, but longer cycle species,
like orchards can also be cultivated.

Owned and operated by the hospitable
winemaker Jos辿 da Mota Capit達o, the
nearby Herdade de Portocarro is a
small estate of the Sado Region, making
exciting wines at the highest level. Mota
Capit達o's ambition has always been
to produce a cult and niche wine; one
that could set itself as an insignia and
benchmark for the region, positioned
nationwide in the top wine elite.
Jos辿, who runs everything himself
has planted 15 hectares of vines taking
advantage of Atlantic Alentejos micro-
climate uniqueness.
He produces only three red wines and
in very small quantities. The wine
Herdade do Portocarro is mainly
made from Aragonez, Alfrocheiro
and Cabernet Sauvignon. Secondly,
Anima, which in Latin means
"spirit" or "soul", is made from the
Italian Sangiovese grapes. Last, but
not least, Cavalo Maluco, which
translates literally as "Crazy Horse",
is made chiefly from Touriga Nacional
and Touriga Franca.

A former ballet dancer, actor and
singer with the New York Joffrey Ballet
and The Alvin Ailey American Dance
Theater School, and assistant to leading
Broadway choreographer Ron Forella,
Jos辿 Arantes also worked in Television,
Cinema and Live Entertainment, before
he became a farmer in 2002.
In the following years, between Portugal
and Brazil, Jos辿 studied and researched
Biological Farming, Permaculture and
Biodynamic Agriculture, including an
internship under Prof.Dr.-Ing. Frank
Adams at Luxembourgs Bio-Agriculture
Research Centre. In 2006, he founded
HORTA DO Z (www.hortadoze.com),
which runs a unique vegetable farm in the
neighbouring Porches estate, in addition
to a series of pedagogic programmes with
local schools and leisure activities such as
Permaculture and Gardening courses.

Alentejos traditional farms and villages,
the ensemble aims to generate a friendly
and intimate lifestyle, combined with a
design-oriented and refined atmosphere.
The Master Plan is anchored on a Winery
Building surrounded by a stunning lake.
The adjacent condominium pools and
sunbathing decks generate a relaxing
promenade around it. In addition, a large
infinity-edge ecological pool is located on
the the tip of the lake.
To this end, the ALCACER VINTAGE
reinstates the picturesque and meandering
character of a traditional Alentejo village,
making the inner courts of this resort a
truly horticultural site, full of fruit trees,
vegetables and flowers with multifarious
bouquets, spices and colours.

The ALCACER VINTAGE aims to be
a truly sustainable development in
terms of environmental and social
stewardship. It aims to be certified
under BREEAM standards a UK
voluntary measurement rating for
Green Buildings, equivalent to LEED,
in the US, and HQE (Haute Qualit辿
Environnementale), in France.
These standards will be implemented
not only at Design Stage and
Construction, but also in terms of
maintenance and management, which
will meet ISO14001: 2004 guidelines.

Under Portuguese Law governing
tourism projects, the ALCACER
VINTAGE is classified as a Touristic
Village (Aldeamento Tur鱈stico) as
defined in the new Decree-Law N尊
39/2008, published in Di叩rio da
Rep炭blica, of March 7, and the new
Ordinance N尊 327/2008 referring to
classification requirements. Other
legislation pertaining to tourism also
applies.
The project was submitted as a
Request for Preliminary Approval
(Pedido de Informa巽達o Pr辿via)
to the Municipality of Alcacer do
Sal, on October 2, of 2008 (Ref.捉
30/PIP/2008), complete with an
Environmental Impact Study
(EIA-Estudo de Impacto Ambiental),
having received Full Approval (Parecer
Favor叩vel) on February 26, of 2009
(Municipal Process N尊 1079/AIRC/08).
On December 10, of 2009, a
subsequent request was made, but
this time in the form of a Request
for Preliminary Approval (Pedido
de Informa巽達o Pr辿via) for a
Projecto de Loteamento (Allotment
Project), having again received
Full Approval (Parecer Favor叩vel)
on February 4, of 2010 (Municipal
Process N尊 1125/IP-2009/26).
In accordance with this dispatch,
the phased Construction Licensing
(Projecto de Licenciamento) can be
submitted for building within the
next 12 months.
