2. BACKGROUND
In the world of yachting and competitive sailing,
speed reigns supreme with handling and agility
coming in at a close second. As international racing
teams continue to battle for the top yachting prizes
around the world, they are also improving the ships
they sail by researching newer, stronger, more
lightweight materials, as well as new designs that
can give them that extra needed edge to take home
the gold.
3. Tech Newcomer
Now, as the competition heats up, a new ship has just
been built by tech billionaire Jim Clark that is
promising to not only revolutionize the sailing world,
but also break a number of speed records while doing
so.
4. Jim Clark
Jim Clark is a high school drop-out whos worth over
$1.4 billion thanks to co-founding Netscape and
investing wisely in Apple, Twitter, and Facebook. He has
used a large chunk of his fortune to invest in a new
yacht, named the Comanche, that uses the latest sail
and hull technologies to blow the competition out of the
water with an expected top speed of around 40mph.
5. The Comanche
The Comanche is being built to set recordsof that there is
no doubtand Clark has been very forthcoming about his
hopes for his new toy. It is named after Quanah Parker, the
last Comanche chief to surrender to the United States and
who did so only 60 miles away from where Clark was born
and grew up in Texas; an area where the plains are very 鍖at
like the ocean. Clark is looking to hold on to the Comanche
for two years before selling it off.
6. Expectations
In those two years he has set his expectations high and
is looking to win events such as the Transatlantic, the
Transpac, the Fastnet, and the Middle Sea races while
breaking speed records along the way. With the
Comanches 鍖rst race looking to be the famed Sydney-
Hobart yacht race, it will be jumping straight into the
deep-end of yachting races and its the perfect test to
see if the Comanche will live up to Jim Clarks
expectations.
