This document provides alphabet road mats and cards to help preschoolers develop letter recognition and formation skills. Teachers are instructed to print, laminate, and cut out the materials. They are then used in small groups by having children move toy cars along the letter paths to build muscle memory for writing letters. Additional resources from the creator's website are also listed. The document contains copyright information and credits various designers and artists.

5. Setting: Small Group or Literacy Centers
Objective: Recognize and name letters of the alphabet
Materials Needed:
? Printer and ink
? Laminator and laminating film
? Scissors
? Small toy cars
Directions:
These alphabet road mats are designed to help children
develop muscle memory.
To use these mats, select the set that best meets the
needs of you and your students. I have included several
different sets for differentiation purposes.
Next, print the mats and laminate for durability.
Introduce the mats to children in small groups so you
can introduce the activity, scaffold for support, and
reinforce proper letter formation.
You may wish to add red and green dot stickers from
the office supply store to the mats to indicate where
the children should start and stop moving their cars to
reinforce proper muscle memory.
