Communism is an economic system where property and resources are shared equally. The symbol of communism is the hammer and sickle, representing workers and farmers. Key aspects of communism include shared work and equal pay. Though first proposed in Greece, it grew in popularity in response to economic inequality in the 19th century. Major communist states include the former USSR and China. Potential advantages include equal access and fulfilling basic needs, though disadvantages are a lack of incentive and reward for hard work.
