TOPICS COVERED
CONFERENCE THEME
DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICS
It is said that Materials do nothing their own, yet without materials mankind
cannot survive! The field of materials is immense and diverse and requires
multidimensional view-point to uncover the beauty of it. Expanding use of
materials is itself revolutionary, and hence an advancement in materials research is
an integral part of human development. But this extravagant utilization of a rich
diversity of materials forced the mankind to enlarge its resources, and completely
new materials are being attempted and synthesized. Significance and advancement
of materials science for the future development of humankind is thus obvious and
the present conference aims to bring the different ideas on a common platform,
which can be explored for societal benefits. The conference intends to discuss the
state-of-art research on the various aspects and applications of materials science in
energy storage devices, thermoelectric materials, sensors, transporting agents,
materials of planetary interiors, atmospheric science and dense plasma conditions.
The Department of Physics was established in 1988. Since its inception, the
department is under the dynamic progress and is reputed for imparting education
at post graduate level. The department has its own identity in the field of magnetic
fluids, nanotechnology, optical astronomy and theoretical condensed matter
physics. It has earned many research programs from National and International
funding agencies as well as industries. With 4 patents on its credit and several
research papers, the department has developed boronated rubber for neutron
shielding and designed and fabricated 14 fully automated telescope for optical
astronomy. The department also has a high-performance computer cluster to
perform the cutting-edge research in condensed matter and materials physics
including the nano materials, nanofluidics, energy storage and thermoelectric
devices. The department has stimulating ambiance with well-equipped
laboratories and smart classrooms for pursuing advance research and teaching.
ABOUT BHAVNAGAR
Bhavnagar was founded by Shri H. H. Bhavsinhji Gohil (1703-64 AD) in 1723
AD near the Gulf of Khambhat, on a carefully chosen strategic location having
potential for maritime trade. Bhavnagar has many good educational institutes like
Sir P. P. Institute of Science, Shamaldas Arts College (Mahatma Gandhi studied
here), and research institute of international repute like Central Salt and Marine
Chemical Research Institute (CSMCRI). It is also known for developed industries
like Nirma Ltd., Acrysil Ltd., Boron Rubbers India, Madhu Silica Pvt. Ltd etc.
Bhavnagar has a pleasant climate in the month of September.
