IN WHAT WAYS DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT
USE, DEVELOP OR CHALLENGE FORMS AND
CONVENTIONS OF REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS ?

Kiera Brown
FRAME 1 & 2
CAMERAWORK AND EDITING

In this first frame it shows my editing techniques that I learnt from watching
tutorials online. I reflected a clip of my music video as it is an unusual editing skill
that would only be seen in electronic music videos. My editing and camerawork
does not challenge conventions of electronic music videos as it follows the generic
conventions. I think this technique is very effective as it’s a rare shot my target
audience would of seen in previous electronic music videos.
SETTING AND LOCATION
My main setting is at a festival which does not challenge typical conventions of
electronic music videos. The festival scenes develop conventions of real media
products as I have used my editing techniques to challenge conventions as
stereotypically festival scenes in electronic music videos have not been edited.
Some festival scenes I have split the screen or even reflected the shot to make my
music video different to any other music videos my target audience will of seen.
FRAME 3 & 4
SPECIAL EFFECTS

The special effects I have used within my music video could challenge conventions
of real media products in some areas. In this frame it is not something people
would stereotypically expect to see but I got inspiration from one electronic music
video called Summertime Sadness. My special effects could develop the
conventions of electronic music video if more music videos in the future used the
same effects I have used.
NARRATIVE
The narrative is introduced at the beginning of my music video from the main actress
burning a picture of her ex-partner. This does slightly challenge conventions as
stereotypically electronic music videos do not have a narrative. My music video could
develop conventions as more electronic music videos could start to have a narrative in
their music videos from watching mine. From watching previous electronic music
videos I realised that they stereotypically challenge peoples views on particular topics
such as Avicii’s music video Silhouette challenges people views on sex changes where
as my music videos challenges peoples view on smoking.
FRAME 5 & 6
REPRESENTATION OF ARTIST &
PERFORMANCE

Frame 5 represents the artist as it shows her smoking which challenges people
opinions on the main artist but also makes people wary of daily occurrences such
as smoking. Some peoples opinions could be negative due to this clip in my music
video. It can cause controversy with my target audience which is what I wanted as
it grabs more peoples attention to my music video which brings in a larger target
audience.
PROPS
The main prop I have used in my music video is red lipstick as it represents a number
of different things such as connotates the meaning of love and heartbreak. This does
not challenge conventions of electronic music videos as this prop has been used in a
range of different music videos which could also attract a wider audience for my music
video. This prop could develop conventions of real media products as other artists
may start using this prop in their music video as it works well as a main element when
editing such as reversing a clip.
