One Direction – Take Me Home Analysis
Image of artists
Title of the band is in white the font is the
bands brand and is always used to help the
audience establish who the band is. The use of
white text on a blue sky background stands out
to the audience, and also creates a light tone as
we connote the sky as peaceful/harmless.
Camerawork: The mid shot of the band allows the audience to see detail
whilst still showing enough for the audience to feel as if they were
looking at the artists whole body. The artists are not staring directly at
the camera the are staring at each other this reflects the band is close
and are a unit. It is conventional to have the artist on the front cover so
the audience can recognize the artist.
Design: The use of a
light coloured
background creates a
soft feel, this reflects the
band is free and fun and
‘normal boys’ its typical
for pop artist to attempt
to relate to their target
audience with is
teenagers in this case.
Mise en scene: The use of a red telephone box reflects their British heritage, it also
stands out against the light sky background. The use of a park setting connotes youth
and fun. In addition to this their clothing compliments each other as the theme I dark
colors and white; again this connotes they are a unit and are linked together, but still
have separate identities.
Performance:
The band are all holding each other
like they depend each other, this is
typical of bands to show how they
all need each other and reflect their
friendship. Moreover there're facial
expressions are all happy like they
having a good time.
Again a light coloured
background is used
again for the back cover;
this creates a soft feel.
A hand written design has been added to
the back cover this connotes youth and
how the young generation would scribble
meaningless stuff. It gives the idea of
almost a diary or journal in which the
band has written songs in.
2. Demi Lovato – Demi
Album name and artist.
The artist Demi has named
her album after herself.
This is typical of pop artist
to do after they have
established themselves.Design: The artist has been placed
against a white background this makes
her stand out and puts emphasis on the
artist. Moreover white contrasts with
the dark paint covering Demi’s body
and gives a sexy/ slick feel.
Camera work: The use of a midshot here allows the audience to see the artist
in some detail whiles still feeling as if they were staring at the full subject.
This is typical of pop artist to do as it shows detail without overwhelming the
artist. Here the artist is staring directly at the camera the use of this direct
address allows the audience to connect with the artist. It is conventional for
the artist to be on the cover of there own album.
The silver theme used for the text ‘
Demi’ stands out on the artist and
background and compliments the
silver paint on her body.
Furthermore the fact the letters are
spaced out, reflect she is
independent and standing out.
Performance: The artist is
looking directly at the
camera and her posture is
strong and straight
showing she is strong and
has nothing to hide.
Mise en scene: The artist is nude in the image as is
covered in a silver body paint this reflects a sexy feel.
This is typical of the pop genre as pop artist are
usually sexualised as it can help sell to a certain
extent. The use of dark makeup against the
background makes her features stand out and gives
the artist an edgy feel.
The silver theme is carried on when
looking at the back cover again
creating a slick and also edgy feel.
The use of silver sharp lines cutting
across the song list is quite a
contemporary design and may
portray a theme within the album.

Camerawork: The use of a mid shot allows the audience
to see the artist in detail without seeing the whole
subject. The artist is staring directly at the camera this
allows the audience to connect with her. Furthermore
her eyes are focused directly at the camera as well this
reflects her rebellious personality as she looks daring.
Mise en scene: The use of the metal fence in front of
the artist connotes she is a rebel and is breaking the
rules. Moreover it reflects her youth as if she is still in
school wanting to get out. This can be a metaphor for
her trying to break free from limitations.
Design: The use of pink
san serif text creates a
fun and cheery
atmosphere. The pink
reflects the artist punky
persona whiles showing
her girly side to.
Furthermore the use of
a heart replacing the ‘o’
in lloyd adds a quirky
feel. The title in black
writing looks like chalk
graffiti this connotes
youth and breaking
rules.
Costume: The use of black top, makes the artist look striking against the
blue background; furthermore the use of dark colours again reflects her
rebellious side. This is still conventional as bright colours have still been
used on the album alongside dark colours, they both are contrasting, like
both sides of the artist persona.
Again the use of a chalk style writing has been
used on the backcover for the songs on the
album.
Here the artist is again looking away from the camera like she is in thought.
Moreover in this shot she is wearing a short skirt and shirt. This style of
costume shows her bare legs and makes the artist look sexy. This is
conventional as in the music industry female artist are usually sexualised.
