This document discusses efforts at Sheffield Hallam University to improve student employability. It outlines four interconnected elements that comprise the university's employability offer: work-related learning, developing transferable skills, career planning, and personal development planning. Case studies are presented on interdisciplinary projects involving engineering and other fields to develop professional skills. The importance of career mentoring relationships with employers is also discussed. Graduate identity and the senior student experience are examined as factors in assisting the transition to working life.
This document provides information about Katarina Segerberg including her contact information. It then describes several of her design projects including REPP (rubber profiles made from tires), RESTORE (an app to help with panic attacks), IMAFO (a ceiling lamp), SUPPORT (a car headrest), and C-PAD (a temperature regulating vest). For each project, it provides background on the problem being addressed, research conducted, concept development, feedback from experts, prototypes created, and the final results.
Mechanical prototyping resuable face mask 3danujabarge3
油
This document describes the design and prototyping of a reusable 3D printed face mask. It includes sections on the concept drawing, 3D modeling and CAD files of the mask components. The mask consists of two 3D printed parts and two disposable filter membranes. Advantages are that the mask can be sanitized and reused multiple times over 2-3 years, is comfortable to wear and provides 95% filtration of particles. The document outlines the prototyping technique used, bill of materials, and concludes that reusable 3D printed masks are beneficial for personal protection and reducing waste compared to single-use masks.
A laboratory was using a heavy sound insulating hood that employees had to open and close hundreds of times per day, leading to physical fatigue. To address this, Novascan Technologies implemented a solution using two linear actuators from Grob Antriebstechnik to smoothly and silently move the 200kg hood. The actuators each provide 3000N of force for precise and synchronized movement controlled by a handheld remote, protecting employees from injury while easing their workload.
The document describes the development of a security alert system using GSM for gas leakage detection. The system uses an MQ6 gas sensor to detect LPG leaks. When gas concentrations exceed a certain level, the sensor detects the leak and alerts owners via a call to their mobile phones. The project team conducted various canvases including AEIOU, mindmapping, empathy mapping, ideation, and product development to understand user needs and design the system. A prototype was created to test the fundamental features and functions before final design. The conclusion states that the low-cost system can help detect leaks and boost safety and the economy.
The document describes a proposed automatic fire extinguisher product designed for residential kitchen stove-top fires. It would use passive infrared sensors to detect stove-top fires and then deploy a dry chemical powder to extinguish the fire within 10 seconds, without needing human intervention. Concept designs and prototypes were created for a compact wall-mounted device that holds replaceable dry chemical canisters and has articulating nozzles to target stove-top fires. The goal is to create an affordable and easy to install automatic solution to a common cause of residential fires and injuries.

A bedroom is more than just a place to sleep; it's where you find comfort and a sense of peace. It's the room that feels like a hug after a busy day. The bed, soft and inviting, is where you can sink into relaxation, with pillows that cradle your head and blankets that make you feel cozy and safe. It's a place where you can let go of the world and just be.
You might have a dresser or a closet, a place to tuck away clothes and personal items, but its also where you keep the little things that make you feel at homelike a favorite book on the nightstand or a candle that smells like calm. Soft lighting adds warmth, and windows let in just enough natural light during the day to keep things bright but not too harsh.
Decor adds that personal touchwhether its a plant in the corner, art on the walls, or a rug that feels nice underfoot. Its where you can get away from everything, to recharge or reflect, and to make the space feel completely yours. A bedroom is the ultimate safe haven, designed for comfort, rest, and a sense of belonging.

Visual persona diagram - A VSP diagram is a map over a
day in a fictitious user卒s life. The diagram is based on the interviews
we did in Kiruna. With the VSP diagram we could discover new
problems and solutions from the viewpoint of a potential user.
Users quick concept exercise - From the final post it
notes we picked a potential solution and then develop it to the next
day. Our class came up with ideas like smart ventilation, protection
unit, communication between co-workers, protection mask, laser
scanner to analyze the rock surface.
Role play - The goal with this exercise was to
immediately identify some of the issues that the user
would face with the chosen solution.
User problems & solutions workshop - Identifying
and writing down problems from the initial research on post it notes.
The weakest ideas were culled continuously by always choosing the
best two post it notes from the other groups and 1 post it from the
our group. The result was some well-analyzed solutions and problem
areas that could be a good start for us in this project.
Field trip analysis - Analyzing
our field trip in groups. The goal was
to ensure that everyone in the class had
the same knowledge about the mining
process but also to start discover areas
that could be improved.
User centered design (UCD) - applies methods from
psychology, sociology and ethnography to understand the user
and to gain a deeper understanding what people really want and
need in order to develop better products.

Industry workers are unaware of their current working environment.
Coal workers pneumoconiosis (CWP),
also known as black lung disease has
increased over the last 10 years due to
modern efficient mining machines that
make the coal particles smaller than
before.
Daily exposure to even small amounts of airborne
particles dramatically increase the risks for overtime
ending up with medical conditions like asthma,

18. Natural Cooling System
- The led lights is using the outgoing air for cooling
Functions
Light sensor - Modern head lamps is using a light sensor to
control the light. The sensor is measuring the surrounding light
and the light that is reflecting back, It can then self adjust the
power so it is perfect for the current environment.
Led lights - This module has two integrated led lights with
two different lenses that gives a balanced light both when the
mask is on the helmet and on the face.
The user can self change the led lights and switch to other
lenses i.e. if you want a more focused light or more wide.
Speaker/Microphone - This module have an integrated
speaker and microphone. Depending on your setup you can
choose between to send the audio through the speaker or if
it卒s a noisy environment to your headphones.
Exchangeable front

self change, depending
on what their current

19. Exchangeable front modules
Modules for different professions
Gas sensor for the petrochemical industry.
Detects gas leaks before they hit you.
Basic transparent to facilitate lip-reading
User can self upgrade to improve the masks
performance over time.
Full light module for extreme mining situations
Filter module that you can send to analysis to keep
track of your working environments, could e.g. be
used for health insurance purposes
20. Intelligent Rear Light RSX卒15 has a built in light
sensor that can feel when the user is entering a dark
area making the rear light turn on automatically.
Charging - RSX卒15 has rechargeable battery modules
that use the rear light as a charging indicator.
NFC Connection - You can connect and setup
your RSX卒15 by using NFC / bluetooth. In the app
you can e.g. select which colleges that are in your
current working area and where to send the audio.
The adudio can be sent trough the module speaker
or to the protective headphones.
Activate Front Module - To activate the front module
(speaker/microphone) you simply remove the neck-strap
from the battery. In this way the battery unit knows that you
are going to use the mask.
Battery with smartness:
RSX卒15 has no on/off button. Everything
is controlled by the built-in proximity
sensor that feels when the user is using
the helmet or not. The proximity sensor
also works as a fall-detector and can
send an alarm if the user has not moved
for a while. If the user does not respond
by getting up, the RSX卒15 will send out a
distress signal that the closest co-worker
will receive and act upon.
