Anemia is a condition where there are not enough healthy red blood cells to carry adequate oxygen to the body's tissues. It is caused by a reduction in hemoglobin. There are different types and grades of anemia based on hemoglobin levels and causes such as iron deficiency, vitamin deficiencies, genetic mutations, or destruction of red blood cells. Common symptoms include paleness, headaches, dizziness, and indigestion. Anemia is diagnosed through medical history, physical exam, complete blood count, and stool examination. Treatment depends on the underlying cause but often involves iron or vitamin supplements, blood transfusions, and dietary changes.
