Antipsychotic drugs are typically classified as either typical or atypical. Typical antipsychotics include phenothiazines like chlorpromazine, butyrophenones like haloperidol, and thioxanthenes like flupentixol. Atypical antipsychotics have a different mode of action than typical drugs. Antipsychotic drugs are used to treat conditions like schizophrenia, paranoid schizophrenia, organic dementia, and their indications include emotional withdrawal and impaired communication. Both typical and atypical antipsychotics can cause side effects.
