The document describes a scenography project for the environmental theater play "Klemet" located in Hemnes, Norway. The scenography transformed the surrounding valley into a shaman drum to tell the story of Klemet, a Sami man torn between traditional and farming lifestyles. Elements from Klemet's life and the villagers were constructed out of recycled materials from the valley. These included stage towers representing drumsticks overlooking the audience, haystacks representing farms, and a heller stone structure where Klemet lived, drawing on local building techniques. The scenography aimed to immerse audiences in the natural setting through a temporary constructed stage using only local materials.
Studies across 10 countries found that over half of people showed interest in news, with 68% interested in the US which was in the middle range compared to other nations. The US and most other countries had fewer people using print and radio as primary news sources, instead relying more on digital methods like smartphones for 17% of US news consumption, similar to other nations who also used smartphones more than tablets for news. While the US had more mixed use of video and text, other nations showed a slight preference for reading news text over video.
The survey results showed that including pictures of celebrities, bright colors like pink and purple, and gossip about celebrities' relationships and secrets would attract young teenage readers to a new music magazine. Most respondents said the magazine should cost between 贈1-贈2 and include posters of celebrities. The results informed the candidate that their target audience of teenagers would enjoy those elements in a new magazine.
The document describes the Nomad City - Aurora Observatory project, which aims to build a movable wooden city on the frozen R淡ssvatnet Lake. Students from various universities will construct individual ice fishing huts and public structures like a fire house, sauna, and outhouse. The structures will be mounted on sledges and serve as a village for ice fishing and observing the Northern Lights. The location provides natural resources for fishing and wildlife viewing. Students reflected that nomads follow seasons and resources, escape constraints to discover and learn, and have a spiritual connection to space rather than local roots.

Environmental conservation involves protecting and nurturing the natural environment through actions such as preserving ecosystems, maintaining natural resources, and reducing pollution. It includes protecting trees and other plant life, which help regulate climate, improve air and water quality, and prevent soil erosion, while being mindful of sustainably managing these resources when necessary uses require cutting trees.

This document discusses different types of structural response spectra used to analyze how structures respond to dynamic loads like earthquakes. It defines static load response, dynamic load response, and equations of motion. It explains D'Alembert's principle of dynamic equilibrium and how response depends on natural frequency and damping ratio. It then describes response time histories obtained from accelerographs and how response spectra are developed based on maximum deformation of single-degree-of-freedom systems subjected to ground motions. Finally, it defines pseudo-velocity, pseudo-acceleration response spectra and how each spectrum provides a meaningful physical quantity - deformation, strain energy, or equivalent static force.
This document provides an overview of the connections between climate change, sustainability, and the arts. It discusses the science of climate change, highlighting the evidence that human activities are triggering changes to the global climate. It then explores how artists have addressed these issues through various mediums. Finally, it presents some initiatives and events that bring the arts and sustainability communities together to raise awareness and find ways forward on these important issues.

Overhead transmission lines are often seen as visual pollution. The artist proposes transforming transmission towers into works of art through two approaches: sculptures for new installations and art installations on existing towers. The presentation provides details on the artist's concept and the process of building an "Art-Pylon", including the project stage of design and modeling, and construction stage. It compares this approach to alternatives like line burial and highlights benefits like lower cost, same lifetime as traditional towers, and better integration into the landscape.

The annual Festival Polytech is an open-air celebration of science and curiosity, welcoming thousands of guests of all ages. In 2014, scientists, artists and engineers from 12 countries of the world participated in the exhibitions and installations, lectures, screenings, performances and interactive stands run by the Museum. The festival was the first collaborative project of the Polytechnic Museum (Moscow) and the World Science Festival (New York).
Sam Tottenham is an architectural designer based in the UK. He received a BA in Architecture from Oxford School of Architecture in 2016. His portfolio includes Mycelium Stories, an interactive wildlife observatory and storytelling pavilion made from agricultural waste and mushroom spores. Another project is Theatre of the Everyday, a social enterprise in Deptford that addresses homelessness through a residency program teaching theatre skills. Sam has experience in CAD, modeling, woodworking and other construction skills.
This document provides an overview of the history of industry and manufacturing in the Black Country region of England since 1945. It discusses how the region was an early center of the industrial revolution and played a key role in global industrialization. While many large employers closed in the 1980s-1990s, the area has adapted by developing many industrial estates that now house smaller manufacturing businesses, though this new landscape has not been thoroughly documented. The document also introduces several photographers and artists that have captured the people and changing landscape of the Black Country over the past century.
The document announces the Nuit des Mus辿es event taking place in Luxembourg City on Saturday, October 12th from 6pm to 1am. Several museums will be open late with special programming including guided tours, workshops, performances, and live music. Two of the participating museums, Villa Vauban and Casino Luxembourg, are highlighted with descriptions of their current and special exhibitions for the event. The Villa Vauban will offer pastel painting and photo booth activities for visitors as well as acoustic music performances. Casino Luxembourg will focus on several video installations and the artist of one exhibit will give a talk to provide insights. Shuttle routes are provided for transportation between museum locations throughout the evening.
This document provides an overview of piezoelectricity including its history, internal working, materials, effects, and applications. It describes how certain crystals produce an electric charge when mechanically stressed (piezoelectric effect) or deform when an electric field is applied (reverse piezoelectric effect). Common piezoelectric materials include quartz, barium titanate, lead zirconate titanate. The document also discusses piezoelectric sensors, actuators, transducers and their uses in applications such as energy harvesting floor tiles, medical devices, and ignition lighters.

The rock garden in Chandigarh, India was secretly initiated in 1957 by Nek Chand who created hundreds of sculptures and art objects entirely out of discarded domestic and industrial waste spread over 40 acres. The garden consists of multiple courtyards connected by walled pathways, with sculptures and artworks in each courtyard. It also features artificial waterfalls created from retaining walls, an amphitheater built from broken tiles, and water canals carrying water from the waterfalls. The unique garden is a testament to creativity and innovation through its artistic recycling of urban waste.
Erika Blumenfeld is an artist who records natural light phenomena. Her work from a 2009 Antarctica residency documents the light emanating from the four cardinal directions at different times. It explores concepts of place, time, polarity and navigation in the polar regions where compasses do not work. Blumenfeld's goal is to experience and convey the essence of light and place through her lensless camera recordings.

Aboriginal rock art in Australia dates back over 30,000 years and can be found across the continent. The paintings and engravings were traditionally created for cultural and spiritual reasons to tell stories and myths. A variety of natural pigments like ochre were used along with binders like plant juices and applied using twigs, leaves or fingers. Some of the most famous examples include Wandjina spirits from Arnhem Land and rock art found at Kakadu National Park depicting animals and ancestral beings.

The document proposes the VIA.ARS.NATURA project, which aims to create artworks along old routes in rural areas of South-East Finland using natural local materials. The project would place both temporary and permanent site-specific sculptures to highlight the landscape and geology. Potential artworks could include living sculptures formed by planting techniques or landscaping to direct visitors. The objectives are to develop cultural facilities, increase cultural knowledge and international collaboration, and attract visitors to rural areas. A sample route from Mikkeli to Kangasniemi is outlined, with one detailed proposal focusing an area around Haukivuori.
