The document describes four artworks: Ai Weiwei's "Circle of Animals" sculpture, the student's photo "Buster" of their dog in response, Margaret Kilgallen's painting illustrating strong women, and the student's drawing "Education" of books in response, and El Anatsui's collage "Art in the Twenty-First Century" made of liquor bottle caps and the student's collage "Recycle" made of plastic bottles and caps in response. The student believes these artworks illustrate nature, respect for animals, women's intelligence beyond appearances, and environmental issues of pollution and need for recycling.
2. Ai WeiWei
This photograph is called
the “Circle of Animals”. In
this picture there are
several types of animals
made out bronze in front
of the fountain and trees.
It illustrates how many
different creatures there
are in nature. Also, I
believe that having these
animals made into
statues shows that we
should have more respect
towards them and
appreciate what some of
them bring to our society.
3. “Buster” by Kelsey Giotis
I chose to take a picture
of my dog, Buster, in
response to the “Circle of
Animals.” I decided to
take a photo of my a dog
because of how much
they mean in our society.
They hold many different
names, such as our best
friends, protectors, family
members, listeners, and
loyalist. Many households
have a pet dog, they may
also have some of those
other animals in Ai
WeiWei’s photo.
4. Margaret Kilgallen
Margaret Kilgallen has been
known to illustrate strong and
independent looking women.
Her goal was to try to change
the thoughts about women.
That they are not just classified
by their looks and weight, but
more on their intelligence and
personalities. This painting
made in 2000 definitely
illustrates the potential and
influence women have in this
world.
5. “Education” by Kelsey Giotis
In response to Margaret Kilgallen I
decided to draw books needed for
classes such as Chemistry, English,
Sociology and Biology to represent
how smart women can be when
they put forth the effort. People
judge books by their covers,
especially women. The first thing
people usually notice about
women is their figure and their
looks. Like Margaret I believe
society should change their views
on women and focus on what is
actually important.
6. El Anatsui
This collage made by El
Anatsui is called “Art in the
Twenty-First Century”. It
was made in 2012. I believe
this collage of liquor bottle
caps represents how the
economy is falling into a
state of despair. The reason
I say this is because there
are so many environmental
problems now-a-days with
pollution and it is having a
huge affect on nature.
7. “Recycle” By Kelsey Giotis
In response to El’s photo of
metal bottle caps I made a
collage of plastic water
bottles, ginger ale bottles
and their caps. The point I
am trying to make with my
collage is that there is trash
everywhere! In the ocean,
lakes, and on land. This is
really affecting animals that
live in those environments.
People need to start recycling
or the human race is going to
kill many different types
animal species.
