Social Behavior
The picture above was taken at a famous coffee shop, Starbucks Coffee somewhere in
Shah Alam. There are a few concepts regarding this social behavior that I would like to elaborate
and talk about. The first concept that comes to mind right after seeing this situation are the
schemas. Schemas clearly means some sequence. For example, we went to Starbucks, we look at
the menu board and we ordered at the cashier. Soon after ordering, we straight away pay for the
orders. Right after paying, we wait at the waiting counter to pick up our orders. Next, we collect
the orders, search for a table and enjoy the orders.
The next concept that I can relate based on this picture are availability heuristics.
Heuristics means a simple rule of thumb, and availability heuristics means something that is
brought to mind easily. When people thinks of Starbucks, what comes to their mind is that only
rich people goes to this kind of place. For teenagers, they might think of the free wifi. Not just
that, teenagers easily thinks that this kind of place can make them somewhat cool to their friends.
Based on that elaboration, I can definitely relate to representative heuristics, which is
judgment made. As others seeing these people entering Starbucks, they straight away judge that
these people wastes their money on an expensive drink just because they want the fame. But
what they do not realize is that those people are not just buying an expensive drink but also a
quality of a good coffee. Lastly, you can definitely see that the girl with the pink kurung was
looking straight at the guy with the yellow shirt on. I believe that she might be thinking what
does a guy, dressing up like that doing at Starbucks. You never know, he might be a boss to
somebody or a son to a millionaire.
