The user upgraded their FortiGate firewall directly from version 5.0.7 to 5.2.3, skipping intermediate versions, which can cause configuration and flash corruption. They are instructed to format the flash and re-install 5.0.7, load their 5.0.7 configuration, then follow the recommended upgrade path of 5.0.7 > 5.0.10 > 5.2.3 to properly upgrade their firewall. Formatting the flash and re-installing the correct firmware versions will help recover the firewall from any issues caused by the incorrect upgrade path.
