The Hang Seng Index is Hong Kong's main stock market index that tracks the top 48 companies listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. It was launched in 1969 and is maintained by Hang Seng Indexes Company, a subsidiary of Hang Seng Bank. The index represents about 60% of the overall market capitalization of the Hong Kong stock market and is the key indicator of the performance of the Hong Kong market.
