Asking questions in English
There are three types of questions in English: Subject questions Object questions Yes/no questions
Subject questions Sentence Question John  is fixing the computer An accident  happened last week They ask about  the subject  of a sentence Who  is fixing the computer? What  happened last week? Word order  doesn’t change
Now it’s your turn ¿Quién se ha comido la tarta? Who has eaten (up) the cake? ¿Qué tren va a Londres? Which train goes to London? ¿Qué está prohibido en los hospitales? What is banned at hospitals? ¿A quién viste ayer en el autobús? Who(m) did you see yesterday?
Object questions Sentence Question Mary met  John  yesterday Tom needs  a new computer  They ask about  the object  of a sentence Who  did Mary meet yesterday? What  does Tom need? You need to change the order and use an auxiliary verb (do/did) The order for questions is  QUASI  – (QUestion – Auxiliary – Subject – Infinitive)
Now it’s your turn ¿Qué has comprado? What have you bought? ¿Cuándo llegan tus padres de vacaciones? When do your parents arrive from holiday? ¿Cómo llegó tu hermano a casa ayer? How did your brother arrive home yesterday? ¿Cuántas novias has tenido? How many girlfriends have you had?
Yes/no They ask for confirmation or negation of something you already know The structure is Auxiliary-Subject-Verb Have you seen the accident? ( I have seen the accident ) Do you like apples? ( I like apples ) Did you see your brother last night? ( I saw my brother last night )
Now it’s your turn ¿Te gusta ver deporte por la tele? Do you like watching sports on TV? ¿Vas al cine con frecuencia? Do you often go to the cinema? ¿Cocinas los fines de semana? Do you cook on/at weekends? ¿Has hecho puenting alguna vez? Have you ever done bungee jumping?
