Description of the Business and the Opportunity
Concept
AudioLink is an online talent network of aspiring individuals looking for the next big
break. The website was developed for the sole purpose of bringing together the
entertainment executives and talented community into one location for the initial contact.
Opening the lines of communication in a more robust, interactive and easily accessible
solution is the key to providing the next generation of talent searches and promotion of
talent in this day and age. Our target market is musicians who want to be discovered,
talent agencies, recording companies, and bars which have live music events. Some of the
services that we provide for our users are: demo attachments (Audio & Video), picture
attachments, audition searches and postings, member searches and contact, competitions
and talent voting. The competitiveness of the talent network industry is moderate to high.
There are similar web sites in the entertainment industry, but most them focus on
acting/modeling. We are going to differentiate ourselves by focusing on music, and being
a portal for the future stars by enabling them to communicate with each other.
Value
Our goal of eliminating the old ways of talent searches (standing in audition lines for
hours; spending countless amounts of money on demos, mail-outs, traveling to different
states and more) and introducing the new generation of talent management through the
use of one website. By eliminating these processes, we are going to create value for
musicians and recording companies. Our main revenue stream will be the monthly
membership fees from musicians and agencies. Another source of revenue will be other
companies advertisements such as recording companies, musical instrument companies
and so on. Our major costs include maintaining the web site; hardware, software, and
labor costs. Other costs are advertisement and promotion, and transaction costs.
Capabilities
We are going to achieve best-in-class operating performance by capturing IT
professionals to work with us, and we will develop modular, scalable, and flexible
infrastructure. For marketing, we will mostly use World Wide Web, which is a cheap but
very effective tool. We will advertise our banners on music related web sites, such as
fender.com, gibson.com, musiciansfriend.com, music123.com, and so on. We will also
use radio, music retail shops, and sponsorships for music related events such as concerts
and festivals to increase our publicity. Not to mention the word-of-mouth, which will
increase our brand recognition.
On the Strategic Grid
We are on the strategic side of the grid, because the IT impact on our core strategy, as
well as on operations is very high. Our mission is to transform the talent industry by
eliminating the old ways of talent searches and to offer real solutions to musicians, and
recording companies. Our ultimate goal is to be a vertical portal in the talent industry by
providing a deep content, a place for musicians to learn, and communicate.
Evolving the Business Model
We are going to analyze our business model continually, and try to enhance our current
model by adding new features and functionality to our current services. For example, we
are planning to implement an online chat session to our web site so that our members can
communicate with each other instantly, and we are also planning to bring well known
musicians to our web site for online information exchange by those chat sessions.
Because web-enabled architecture eliminates the problem of location, we are planning to
expand our business model by entering new geographical markets. Although music is
universal and talents can reach global fame, we are going to help talents in other
countries to have their albums in their locations and language by entering global markets.
We are going to benefit from economies of scale by reaching more clientele using the
same infrastructure.
Finally, we are planning to extend our business model by entering new lines of
businesses such as movie industry (actors/actresses), painting (artists), dancing (dancers),
sports (athletes), and modeling (models). We believe that there is a great market
opportunity on the other segments of the entertainment industry as well. However, we
first want to acquire the expertise on the music industry and then we are going to
penetrate to other segments and benefit from the economies of scope and scale using the
same infrastructure.
Pricing and Financial Planning
We are going to charge a monthly fee of $9.95 to our subscribers. Within 6 months, we
are planning to have 5,000 subscribers, and within 1 year, we are planning to acquire
more than 10,000 customers. We are planning the have more than 50,000 subscribers at
the end of the 5 years.

Description of the Data to be Collected
Our website provides direct links to various musicians and talent agents. We play a role
as a bridge to connect two parties and help them realize their dreams. There exist two
ways in our website: One way is designed for the talent agents; another is for the
musicians. Through our website, musicians and talent agencies can register with our site
respectively. Thus, musicians can search for talent agencies, and talent agencies can
search for musicians according to their own criteria.
We collect the following data to support our website creation. We establish six databases
including Musician profile, Talent agent profile, Request form, Audition form, Rating
form and Banned form on our website. We plan to collect different data for each form.
1) To collect data for musician profile, the musicians can create their own profiles by
entering their personal information and other related fields, the data we will collect from
this table embrace name, phone number, email address, website, mailing information,
billing information, and other features related the performance and levels for musicians
such as group information, age, type of musical instrument they play, type of musical
profession, years of experience, skill level, score performance and other personal
information description such as experiences in the fields provided. This information will
be stored in our musician database and they are available to be searched by the recruiters
and other members who have full access to our website.
2) For talent agency profile, the recruiters (agents, recording companies) will create their
own accounts and will be asked to enter the required information. From this table, we
collect the data including agency contact information such as name, phone, email
address, mailing address, current position and additional information about the company
background and experiences including years of operation, staff size, location, legal
operation, musical type, and detailed company profile description. All these data will be
kept in the agency database. The data are available for musicians to search for their
favorite representative for their coming audition.
3) Besides those main profiles, we create rating table that will have a voting feature. The
data we collect includes musician identification, agent identification, number and rate.
This rating form will be available for the visitors who access our website and they can
vote for their favorite talents.
4) For the Audition database, our data collection includes musician name, agent name,
date, place, contact, email-address, and message posted for an audition.
5) Request form data we collect have musician name, agent name, status and banned list.
6) Banned form includes musician identification, agent identification, and the banned
reason.
To create accounts, musicians and talent agents need register some important data to
create their log-in information. These data for both sides include username, password,
question, answer, and signup date. If they forget their password, whey will be able
retrieve their password by clicking the forgot password? button. After that, a secret
question window will appear. After entering the secret answer successfully, they will be
log in to their own profiles.
Analysis of the Data
As we mentioned in the first part, we exist to eliminate the old ways of searches and
create value for both musicians and agents. We are going to achieve this objective by
creating a portfolio for talented musicians and talent agencies on our web site. The data
we collect for both profiles such as mailing address, email address and personal
information, we can use them to communicate with the clients and apply them to our
marketing strategy; the data such as skill levels, experiences and musical types, etc. these
data help us provide enough information with both parties to choose their ideal
candidates. The agents can contact the musicians directly if they think they reach the
criteria. Our task is to create a database with talented musicians for the initial contact
with the agents. For the musicians side, with enough information, musicians can search
for their satisfied agents who can show the right way for their promising future.
Once both parties reach their own criteria, the talent agent will make an audition
appointment for the talented musicians. They will exchange contact information, talk the
detail and the agencies will arrange the audition place, date for the musicians. on the
other hand, the agents can post auditions on line, hence, the paid musicians can view the
posts and contact agents for their coming audition appointment. The information they set
up will be automatically stored in our audition database. For our management level, it is
easy for us to record the successful matches.
The log-in data we collect for both musicians and talent agents is to keep our clients
information secret and prevent their profiles from being changed by outsiders. We collect
the data such as username and password from our clients and store them in our both
profile database. If the clients forget their password, we can provide their hints and
remind their secret question and we also can provide them with temporary password so as
to enable our clients continue their service and guarantee the efficiency and service
quality.
There are two options available for both talent agencies and musicians to access their
researches. These membership type options include free but limited services and paid
service. For paid service, both sides will be able to search for each others complete
information, see another sides profiles and contact them, view their messages, participate
in competitions and more. If they choose free service type, they have limited services
available to research.
For our musician database, we collect billing information from musicians who pay
monthly subscription fee as a member. For the musicians who pay subscription fee will
be guaranteed to access to the updated talent agent lists every month. Thus, more chances
are available to search for reliable information. Once the musicians decide to use the
service on our site, they provide us with a credit card number and other related contact
information. The billing information data we collect will only be used to process the
service. We will not disclose the information to third parties for marketing purposes
under any circumstances. For the finance strategy, our main revenue sources are ascribed
to the musicians monthly subscription fee.
The rating data we collect will support the voting function that enables visitors to vote for
their favorite talent musicians. The data also provide reliable information with the agents
who are anxious to assess the popularity of the potential stars. The higher point a
musician possesses the better chance she/he has to be contacted by the agencies. Voting
also highlights the musician in the public. For example, they will have greater
opportunity to be kept eyeball on their performance and increase more chances to be
famous.
For the data collecting for our banned database, we will store the lists of banned
musicians who have been eliminated by talent agencies. The agents will explain why they
dont pick the musician. We collect these data and keep the banned records that can help
the agencies prevent from redundant researches. This function will not only avoid
nonstop researches for the musicians who want to realize their star dream have no enough
qualification but want to realize their star dreams but also make talent agencies come up
with convenience and time-saving.
In conclusion, all the data we collect for our website are interactive. The overall use of
the data is to support our information processing tasks, to help us determine how our
service tool can significantly alter what our business does to achieve the greatest
advantages. The data we collect are dependable and applicable to concentrate on our core
business competencies that accelerate our web-business to obtain IT economic value and
competitive advantages.
