DANCE AS AN ART Dance is a rhythmic and
expressive movement of the body in
successive movement usually accompanied by
music. It has been said to be the mother of the
arts, for its the oldest of the art which actually
reflects individuals age old need to
communicate different emotions such as joy,
grief, excitement and others.
Dance simply started as individuals own life
for almost all occasions, in whatever aspects,
as birth, death, healing of the sick, asking for
forgiveness, war, marriage were celebrated
by dancing. There are dances that express
thankfulness for a good harvest, in celebration
of religious festivities, or just a mere
pleasurable expression of the body.
It uniquely intensifies different moods and
emotions that somehow deepen everybodys
feeling.
The art of dancing it focuses on the discussion about the art of dance with particular
objective of creating appreciation for the combined arts of body movement and music.
Purpose Of A.V. Techniques.
 Best motivation
 Positive reinforcement to learner
 Positive transfer of learning
 Gain and hold students interest
 Increase understanding and retention
PRINCIPLES OF AUDIO- VISUAL
They should be meaningful and purposeful.
 They should be simple.
They should be accurate in every aspect.
As far as possible they should be improvised.
They should be larger enough to be properly
seen by students.
Social Studies offers plenty of dance
opportunities. You can play patriotic
songs or indigenous tribal music. Kids
can bring in music from their original
homeland, and describe their culture
and dance steps
The importance of Dance in Education
Through the creative process, students are encouraged to use their imagination, collaborate with their
peers to solve problems, and discover multiple solutions to challenges.
By the time the children get to Lower Elementary, Upper Elementary, and then to the Adolescent
Community, although their taste in music might change, they are still incredibly happy to move their
feet. Also, their repertoire of dance numbers is quite amazing! Some children chose to create their own
dances, and this is always a joy to watch
four life skills children will learn
 Brain Development & Memory
Dancers are asked to repeat the same
combinations and move through similar types
of center work, which overtime allows the
brain to retain movement, sometimes referred
to as muscle memory.
 Confidence & Social Interaction
We love this one because being confident
truly helps in all aspects of life! A dance
studio is a safe place to grow up as it
allows dancers to discover themselves
and express their individuality.
 Respect
We have covered how dancers grow and
learn to push themselves individually, but
one of the most important aspects they
learn is to respect their peers. Dance, no
matter the style, will teach young
children to be respectful and work well
with others.
 Creativity
When a student is asked to alternate between
movements or counts within a similar phrase,
he learns to adapt to unique situations. Many
times, dancers are asked to conquer situations,
such as jumping over a puddle without getting
wet, thereby developing problem-solving skills.

conclusion
There are so many reasons why dance is important to the
health and development of our young people. Above all,
children need to move! Any way to get kids moving on
their feet is a must (especially in a digital era). Dance
burns calories, strengthens muscles, improves balance,
increases flexibility, and gives the heart a good workout.
Dance has also been proven to increase cognitive
development. Current research documents the
importance of exercise on the brain and supports what
dancers have always known the body and mind are
connected in vital ways.
Through dance, children can gain a multitude of
important developments; sensory and spatial awareness,
coordination, concentration and mobility. But more than
this, we use it to express emotions, increase confidence or
even just to make ourselves feel better! Schools can put a
large focus on academic subjects, don't forget about the
physical! We love it when we can bring dance in to other
core curriculum subjects, to cater for all ways of learning.
