The document summarizes the history and evolution of the horror genre in film. It describes how horror films in the 1980s relied heavily on graphic gore but then developed more psychological and self-reflexive themes in the early 1990s. The 2000s saw a decline after 9/11 but the genre became popular again in 2005, with remakes of older films becoming common from 2005-2010. From 2010 to the present, horror expanded to television and returned to the slasher genre, while films like The Purge introduced new concepts exploring society as the source of horror.

Two girls are home alone for Halloween weekend when they hear on the news that a serial killer is on the loose. They have a Halloween party but things take a turn when a mysterious group arrives and a body is discovered upstairs. The filmmakers propose using techniques like high angle shots of the party, close ups of scared faces, and a montage with shots of screaming and the masked killer to build tension and mystery in the trailer for who will be the killer's next victim.

My media product uses, develops, and challenges conventions of real magazines, posters, and trailers in the following ways:
1. For the magazine, I included a barcode and used different fonts/layout than the reference magazine, making it look more like a real product.
2. For the poster, I included more text/colors around the image compared to the reference poster, and chose a landscape orientation to better fit the picture.
3. For the trailer, I developed conventions like establishing shots and scenes of party preparation similarly to the reference trailer, but also challenged conventions with different cinematography.
This is my PowerPoint presentation for the evaluation question 1: In what ways does your magazine use, develop or challenge forms and conventions or real media products?
