Welcome to my slideshow of Chinese faces: ) These were people I met on the road as I traveled around the country
My first trip away from my home base of Zhuhai was over to the nearby island: HONG KONG
Its near Zhuhai, but its another world. See my posts on Hong Kong to see why: http://newplateaus.areavoices.com/2011/05/10/hong-kong-international/ Heres what I take to be a typical, hip Hong Kong business guy
But make no mistake, Hong Kong has a lot of diversity. International presence in the Kowloon district and the Filipino housemaids were off for Hong Kongs Labor Day. And heres the rest of faces from this neck of the woods
She was posing for a photographer; and I took my turn:
A boy at the aviary, one at the beach; a man in line at a designer store (no kidding) and a couple Jehovahs Witnesses:
This last spring, I visited the breathtaking views at Yangshuo. But its the people of this rural area that were concerned with today:
The previous women were from one of Chinas 56 ethnic minorities. The rest of these folks belonged to the majority, Han, I believe
油
From the previous slide: The dude with water shapes rocks from the river and sells them. The old ladies sell flowers. The old man invited me in his home, gestured me to go on the roof, but didnt follow me up and I was on the roof alone. I didnt understand
Yangshuo, Guangxi Province A woman makes rice and meat wrapped in leaves. Our friendly tollbooth operator heading home.
Then I went on my big, central China trek that I just wrapped up writing about: Started in Beijing Went south to Henan Province Further south to Hubei Province And west to Xian before going back south to Zhuhai It was a lightning bolt through the heart of China. Heres whos makes up the heartland of China:
First, my fellow faces in transit from one place to the next:
These were from one overnight ride:
