MODEL FOR UNDERSTANDING
INFORMED CHOICE
 If

you are not living your own values, whose values are
you living?

 Do

you make your choices--or do they make you?

 Only

through a process of conscientization do we
discover our own values and their significance to us...
Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will
direct your life and you will call it fate. Carl Jung

 The

AVI is about unfolding meaning through a valuesbased conscientization process. Its non-prescriptive
processi.e. rather than tell people what to do with
their lives, the AVI process provides a model for
understanding which enables people to make their own
informed choices.
WE DO NOT LIVE IN ISOLATION
 We

live in a society, so we cannot live our values any
way we want.

 It

matters not what values we have--what matters is
how we live them...
 Mother

Teresas values were mainly in the Family
Cluster, so too are the values of the Mafia;

 Ghandi

had values mainly in the Emerging Order
and Global Transformation Clusters, so too did
Hitler.
MINESSENCE VALUES FRAMEWORK
[MVF]
The MVF is a set of descriptors and
attributes of worldviews, values,
clusters of values, etc. stored in a
database.
It is maintained and is under
continued development by a
dedicated international team of
experts.
Any change made to the MVF
immediately appears in any
relevant part of the AVI
Questionnaire, AVI Reports,
workshop resources (e.g. exercises
sheets & handouts), etc. because
they are all linked to the MVF.

AVI REPORTS
The MVF as part of its structure, includes eight clusters of
values and 128 values (see previous page). When
people complete the AVI their responses can be
processed to generate a chart, such as the one below,
which shows the priority (colour & size) of values chosen
and which clusters are most important to them.
Clicking on this chart
and others on
subsequent pages,

AVI PHILOSOPHY/5
The issue with a Values Map is that people often think that to map on the right is
better. When in fact, as already stated, what matters is how on lives ones
values, not where they are on the map. For this reason we often use a tree
metaphor:
