  • #3: Commercial initiative of the Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance (NEEA) NEEA is a regional non-profit supported by NW electric utilities including the utilities that are bringing this conference to you today: Puget Energy, Seattle City Light, and Snohomish County PUD. You’ve heard a bit about the great programs these utilities provide directly to you, their customers. Well, these utilities also support the efforts of NEEA which work in concert with and complement utility programs. Our work is regional but our efforts complement our funders direct program offering. It is our collective efforts that help you reap the bottom line financial benefits from energy management. By working together, by looking at all of your energy related business practices and how they interact, can we help you face your energy future. We want to put you in the best position with regards to your energy usage and to face this dynamic energy future. Let me walk you through a couple examples of how this works.
  • #4: A good example of how overall energy-related business practice change works with utility programs to deliver more benefits to customers is embodied in the joint work BetterBricks and the utilities have done with PeaceHealth. PeaceHealth has been providing healthcare to communities in the Pacific Northwest since 1890. It has facilities in Washington, Oregon and Alaska and has over 100 beds. BetterBricks has been working with PeaceHealth on a system-wide level to develop a strategic energy management plan. Last November this plan was approved by PeaceHealth’s management. The SEMP provides the facility directors with an ability to stay focused on the targets established in the SEMP. It allows them to prioritize investments and gives them management support. The plan identified opportunities throughout the PeaceHealth system. These opportunities ranged from operations practices to large-scale capital projects. Through the SEMP and the subsequent scoping work done, operational and capital project opportunities were identified at the St. Joseph hospital in Bellingham WA. Savings opportunities of over $90,000 were identified in the scoping report. The first recommendation was to engage with Puget Sound Energy’s Resource Conservation Manager (RCM) program and hire a RCM. From PSE Web site “Hire a Resource Conservation Manager (RCM) to increase efficiency by focusing on improvements to Operations & Maintenance practices and instituting best practices for resource usage in your organization.” Just last week Scott Dorough started work at St. Joseph’s as their new RCM. Here is a picture of him and he is excited about all of the operational opportunities for energy efficiency at St. Josephs. “ Looks like we've got a wealth of opportunities to explore here and it should be lot's of fun and very rewarding.” Quote from Scott May 17 th . In addition work with Puget Sound Energy’s energy conservation programs to implement selected cost-effective capital improvements that will further reduce energy use.
  • #5: In addition to working with building owners like PeaceHealth and system-wide energy efficiency opportunities, BetterBricks also works with trade allies to help develop their service offerings around energy efficiency. We work with design and construction professionals in the use of integrated design to achieve high performance buildings. We also work with service providers like McKinstry and Siemens to develop their service offering around building operating performance. (energy system tune-ups & enhanced O&M services.) Let me tell you story about our work with McKinstry, SCL and Unico properties that illustrates how we have worked together to help Unico achieve signi.
