Facility Adds
Sustainable
Features
By Bacardi Cuba
As part of its Good
Spirited sustainability
environmental initiative,
Bacardi Limited has
implemented energy-
efficient,
environmentally
conscious practices at
production facilities
across the globe.
At its rum facility in
Puerto Rico, the
company uses green
technologies to
ensure the quality of
its beverages while
limiting its
environmental
impact.
Practices
Bacardi recently added solar skylights and
advanced ceiling insulation to the facility, thus
increasing the amount of natural light and aiding
temperature regulation within its storage
warehouses, whose interior temperature is
critical to the flavor of the award-winning
BACARDI rum.
To ensure that its rum is aged in an ideal
environment, Bacardi also closely monitors
factors like humidity and wind strength.
Julio Torruella
As project director for Bacardi’s Puerto Rico
plant, Julio Torruella oversees the
implementation of sustainable features
such as the warehouses’ new skylights.
He strives to make the most of the small
island’s limited natural resources and has
harnessed its plentiful sunlight to aid
Bacardi’s global sustainability efforts.
