This document provides instruction on ball handling techniques in netball, including catching, passing, and drills. It begins with explaining the importance of warm-ups and lists example exercises. Next, it describes how to properly catch a ball with fingers spread wide and hands close to the chest. Ball passing techniques are then covered, emphasizing a firm grip and pushing the ball away from the torso. Specific passing drills like the chest, bounce, and overhead passes are outlined. The document concludes by stressing the importance of cooling down after practice and provides homework on practicing catches and passes.
3. LESSON OUTCOMES
AT THE END OF THE LESSON LEARNERS SHOULD BE ABLE TO:
Understand the importance of warm-ups and some of its activities.
Understand what ball handling is and how it is done.
Know what ball passing is and how it is done.
Know the different passing techniques.
The importance of cooling down some of its activities.
4. LET US REFLECT!!!
OUR PREVIOUS LESSON WAS ABOUT HEALTH AND SAFETY ISSUES
IN PHYSICAL EDUCATION.
5. WARM-UP EXERCISES
Warm-up exercises are one of the most important aspects of any physical activity.
They help your body temperature and heart rate to increase gradually in preparation of an
intense physical exercise or activity.
Todays warm-up exercises are: A slow jog
Arm circles and arm stretching
Wrist flexor stretch and neck stretches
>These are important because they help in reducing any sort of injuries like cramps or sprains
6. BALL HANDLING: BALL CATCHING
Ball catching in netball is one of the most important aspects of the sport, I
mean can there be a game when the ball is always on the floor?
HOW DO YOU CATCH A BALL IN NETBALL?
Catch the ball with your fingers spread wide open. Doing so gives
you a better grip when you receive it. The catching techniques
end by bringing the ball back in and snug towards your chest.
The better players find this gives them extra control.
Mastering this ball catching technique is important because it has
a major contribution to the game. It is the one that decides if the
team is going to win or not because if you cannot catch any balls
you will not score any goals.
7. BALL CATCHING/RECEIVING DRILLS
We will start by the
one on one passing
and catching
technique that will
be directed by me

9. BALL PASSING
Ball passing in netball is the process whereby a player that has a ball in their hand tries to transfer
the ball to their other team mate.
HOW IS IT DONE?
Take a firm hold of the netball ball with both hands and with your fingers open. Push the ball away from
your chest (torso). Use enough force to propel the ball towards your intended target.
Mastering the passing technique is essential because it teaches you to be an effective player as you use
your mind/brains to calculate the distance where the ball is going and the speed that you have to use in
order for the ball to land in the intended target. Failing to master this will obviously cause your team
problems because you may never get to attack and score instead you might be always giving away your
balls to your opponents.
10. PSSING DRILLS TO BE DONE
Chest pass > Player A scoops the ball up in their dominant
hand and passes it diagonally across their body to player B.
The pass should be right on the chest, with the elbows
pointing outwards. This pass works well for long and short
distances.
Bounce pass > Player A takes 1 step forward and bounces
the ball to their team mate or player B. This type of pass is
used for short distance passing only.
Overhead pass > Player A uses 1 hand to pass the ball and
positions the ball in their hand at the same level or above
their head and passes it to player B
12. COOLING DOWN
Cool down
exercises are done
after and intense
workout that
helps your body
to gradually go
back to its normal
temperature and
helps your heart
to go back to its
normal beating
rate.
COOL DOWN
EXERCISES TO BE
DONE
Child pose Tricep stretch
Doing cool down
exercises helps to
prevent things like
heart attacks,
shortness of
breath, etc.
14. HOMEWORK
In your desired pairs go and continue practicing the ball handling and passing techniques. Use the
provided record sheet to record how many balls you passed and catched successfully as each one
you will be given 10 attempts to catch the ball and 10 attempts to pass the ball which totals into
