An environmentalist fears that bird slaughtering is on the rise after the carcass of a swan was discovered at a Welsh reservoir last week. The swan appeared to have had its throat slit and breasts removed. A local wildlife trust representative urged people to report any similar incidents to help prevent further attacks. While killing a swan can result in jail time or fines, several such incidents have occurred across the UK recently. An RSPCA spokesperson said they could not confirm how or when this swan died but were concerned it may have been deliberately attacked.

AN environmentalist is fearful that bird
slaughtering is on the rise after a carcass
was discovered at a reservoir last week.
It appeared that the swan had been captured
before its throat was slit and breasts removed.
The incident occurred last Thursday at
the Welsh Harp, also known as the Brent
Reservoir 170 hectares of open water,
marshes, trees and grassland.

public to rally together to prevent it from

He said: Im very anxious for
people to keep an eye open. If they see
any incidents, they should report
them to the Wildlife Crime Unit.
The reservoir, in Cool Oak Lane, provides a
valuable habitat for wildlife and is a designated
site of special scientific interest, as well as being
a popular venue for sailing and walking.
Judy Shepherd, who sits on the Welsh Harp
joint consultative committee, expressed her
concern for the wildlife. She said: Its wrong and
sad they [the perpetrators] had dumped the
swan after taking what they wanted from it.

six-month jail sentence and/or a

Despite this, a number of inci-
dents have occurred across the
country recently.
In April, three severed swans heads were
found in front of a pub near Milton Keynes, in
Buckinghamshire, and the previous month,
Husan Fidan, 46, from Turkey, was caught on
camera seizing a swan and beheading it at a lake
in Hildenborough, Kent.
He was filmed stuffing the decapitated animal
into his rucksack before fleeing the scene
and later admitted killing and eating the swan,
claiming not have known the act was illegal.
A spokeswoman for the RSPCA told The Press:
There was a body of a decomposed swan, but we
cannot be certain how or when it died.
It is possible it may have been the target of
other wildlife after it had died and there is no
concrete evidence that this was a deliberate
attack by a person.
We would certainly be very concerned if this
was a deliberate attack and urge anyone with any
evidence to call us on 0300 123 8018.

Since then, the shark has followed him constantly and scared away fish, preventing him from working. However, when he stops his boat, the shark approaches him in a friendly manner, allowing him to pet her belly and neck as she grunts and moves her fins happily in the water. It appeared that the swan had been captured before its throat was slit and breasts removed. The incident occurred last Thursday at the Welsh Harp, also known as the Brent Reservoir 170 hectares of open water, marshes, trees and grassland. Clive Cohen, right, from the London Wildlife Trust Barnet group, urged the public to rally together to prevent it from happening again. He said: Im very anxious for people to keep an eye open. If they see any incidents, they should report them to the Wildlife Crime Unit. The reservoir, in Cool Oak Lane, provides a valuable habitat for wildlife and is a designated site of special scientific interest, as well as being a popular venue for sailing and walking. Judy Shepherd, who sits on the Welsh Harp joint consultative committee, expressed her concern for the wildlife. She said: Its wrong and sad they [the perpetrators] had dumped the swan after taking what they wanted from it. It is possible it may have been the target of other wildlife after it had died and there is no concrete evidence that this was a deliberate attack by a person.
