Clothes serve several important purposes. They keep us warm or cool depending on the weather. Medical and safety workers wear protective clothing to stay sanitary and safe on the job. Clothes can also identify membership in groups like the military, schools, or organizations. Different cultures and times in history have varying beliefs about appropriate clothing based on modesty. Clothing can indicate status through displays of rank or occasion like military medals or academic regalia. People also use clothing and accessories to enhance their appearance.

- 3. Keeps up warm when we are cold or cool on those hot burning days! Hospital workers wear protective clothing for sanitary reasons. Construction, firefighters and police officers need special clothing for safety.
- 4. Can identify you as a member of a group or organization. Ex: military, teams, schools and community organizations
- 5. A belief about the proper way to cover the body with clothes. Varies with different times in history.
- 6. Can show a persons status or rank within a community. Military shows rank with medals at graduations hoods or scarves show rank with educators.
- 7. Something worn to enhance ones appearance. EX: body paint, tattoos in addition to clothing and jewelry.
