BaltimoreClassicalGuitarSociety 2010-2011ConcertSeason RolandDyens Saturday,October16,2010at8p.m. BaltimoreMuseumofArt “RolandDyens,oneofthefewindividualsworthyofthemantleof master.”(BBCRadio3) RolandDyenssharesthejoyofhismusicaltalentwhileperforming, composing,andteachingthroughouttheworld.Thistri-dimensionaloffering providesthebasisforthephenomenalsuccessofthismusicianandhis ongoingevolution.Neverfallingshortofafullevent,hisconcertsunfoldforhis audienceasapersonalexperienceofemotionalawakening.Hehasasensitive andcolorfulapproachtotheguitar–anunfailingopen-mindednesswhich bringstogetherallformsofmusictoeachandeveryoneofhisprograms.His stagepresence,hisimprovisedopenings,anduniquerelationshipwiththe listeners,undeniablypositionhimattheforefrontofguitarperformance. Formanydecades,hismusichasbeenanintegralpartoftheinstrument’s repertoire,placinghimattheheartofaselectgroupofcontemporary guitarist/composerswhoenjoysuchaprivilegedposition.RolandDyens’ compositionsandarrangementsarewidelyperformedandhighlyacclaimed throughouttheworld.Theyprovideanewbreathoflifefortheguitar asthisplayerandcomposerneverceasestochallengethelimitationsof hisinstrument. BorninAustralia,Mr.Williamshastraveledtheworldsincethe early1960’s,concertizingsoloandwithsuchmusicalcollaborators asJulianBream,ItzhakPerlman,andAndréPrevinamongmany others,andwithhisensembles. Hisrepertoireisevidenceofrichlyvariedmusicalinterests,ranging fromRenaissancemusicthrough19thand20thcenturymusicof manynations.HisCDsincludehisensemble’srecordingof adaptationsofAfricanmusic,andasolorecordingofVenezuelan works.Withoverthirtybest-sellingrecordingsinhisdiscography, JohnWilliamshasalsoplayedforsuchfilmsasTheDeerHunterand AFishCalledWanda.
