Students from several schools in Poland, Turkey, Lithuania, and Romania collected data and shared traditions about the month of March. The following information was shared:
- Temperature data from mid-March to late-March ranging from -1属C to 16属C.
- Marzanna is a Baltic and Slavic goddess associated with seasonal rites of death and rebirth of nature, now seen as a personification of winter.
- One old Polish custom is drowning Marzanna in ponds on March 21st, the first day of spring, as a symbolic end to winter. Warsaw school students create and drown their own Marzanna annually.

Marzanna (in Polish) is a Baltic and
Slavic goddess associated with
seasonal rites based on the idea of
death and rebirth of nature. Today
Marzanna is often perceived as a
personification of winter and the
symbolic drowning ends this
season and returns life.
One of the old Polish custom is
custom Drowning Marzanny.
Currently, it takes place on
March 21 which is the first day
of the calendar spring.
Students on Warsaw school
annually create their Marzanna
and then go to the surrounding
pond.
