4. 7 EASY THINGS PRODUCERS CAN DO TO GET THE BEST OUT OF TALENT
5. WHAT DO OUR PRODUCERS DO? Manage all communication into, and out of, the show. Manage talent day to day. Direct the show when it is live to air. Content Gatekeepers.
6. 1. YOU DONT NEED TO CATCH THE FISH Steering your talent is better than spoon feeding them. Great questions are as good as great ideas. Questions lead you to collaborative ideas. The best question is what else? Use questions to shut down ideas gently. JUST KNOW WHERE THE GOOD FISHING SPOTS ARE
7. 2. UNDERSTAND YOUR BRAND Talent need to understand the vision of the show. This is best explained through the shows brand values . Think about your show as a brand not just a radio show. Review every 6 months.
8. 3. GIVE FEEDBACK Your ability to influence talent is measured by your ability to offer feedback. Frame feedback as what can I learn?, and not right or wrong. Keep majority of the focus on whats coming up, rather than whats already happened. Take the time to debrief big content spikes. Timing is everything.
9. 4. BE CONSISTENT & CONSTANT Be prepared to deliver the same message countless times. Look for creative ways to deliver these messages.
10. 5. TALENT HOT BUTTONS Work out what motivates your talent. Some are listener focused Some are team focused Some are competitor focused
11. 6. BE WELL PLANNED Long term and short term. Whiteboard your life. Different talent need to plan differently. You need to find the balance. Control your environment.
13. 7. CULTURE The culture you create off air will determine your success. Put as much energy into your team as you put into your content.

#8: H&A BRAND VALUES - The Peoples Show - We will go bigger than our competition - H&A Are NOT Celebrities Not just a radio show - Live stage / TV Shows / CDs / Podcasts / Songs on iTunes / Fastest selling chip flavour ever Use brand values as your benchmark
#9: debrief - what worked / didint work / what can we learn? What worked / didnt work? What can we learn for next time? What worked / didnt work? What can we learn for next time?
#10: Jules & Fi are extreme opposites - challenge has been to show them that this is a strength Tina Fey Quote - when talking about hiring writers for 30 Rock when hiring, mix Harvard Nerds with Chicago Improvisers. The Harvard guys check the logic and construction of every joke, the improvisors teach the Harvard guys to be human. you need both
#14: its much easier to build a culture, than change one
