- 1. Ben Howard – Every Kingdom The image that has been used on the front of Ben Howards album cover shows a picture of him diving under water. I believe that this image reflect his genre of music –folk/rock- and also the style of his music videos. The music video I analysed shows the artist in a natural environment, and at the end of the video he was seen diving into a river. I think that this album cover links in with that particular music video as it links in with the end of the music video. Layout – The layout of the album cover is very simple; it only consists of one background image of the artist diving into water, the name of the artist and the name of the album. I believe that this simplicity of the album cover links in well with the artist’s music, as it is quite simple and calm. The album cover gives a calm affect, which relates to the genre. The album cover also follows the route of the eye, as there is a main mast head across the top of the cover, which then leads down to the image of the artist. Image – There is one main image that has been used for the album cover. The image is of the artist diving into water. I believe that this relates to the artist genre of music as it gives a calm and peaceful affect. It also links in well with the music video I analysed, as at the end of the music video the artist was seen diving into a river. The image used on this cover could be linked in with the ending of that specific music video Camerawork – The camerawork used is simple yet effective as it shows a long show of the artist. The use of a long shot allows you to see the location of the shot and the events taking place. This shot shows the artist swimming in deep water, which gives a relaxed feel, which is similar to the effect the artists music has on the audience. Mise en scene – The costumes used on the album cover aren’t very clear, but it looks as though he is wearing dark casual clothes. The use of dark clothes helps to make him more visible in the water, and makes him appear like a shadow in the water. The lighting used in the music video is low key. The water is lighter and the top and gradually gets darker as the water gets deeper. The artist is shown deeper in the water so almost blends in with the darker areas of the water. Colour – The main colours used in the album cover are blue and green which are seen as natural colours which fit in with the theme of his music videos as he usually tends to involve a natural environment in his videos. He also tends to use water in his videos, which is the main theme of the album cover. The colours gradually get darker as you go down the album cover which shows the deepness of the water. Typography – The fonts used are san serif and very simple. I think that they link in well with this genre as they are simple, which I believe that the artists try to create by using a lot of natural elements in their music and videos
