Berjaya Corporation Berhad was founded in 1984 by Tan Sri Dato' Seri Vincent Tan Chee Yioun and has become one of Malaysia's largest conglomerates, operating in various sectors including financial services, consumer marketing, hotels and recreation, property development, gaming, motor trading, food and beverage, and telecommunications. BERJAYA means SUCCESS in Bahasa Malaysia and reflects the success and Malaysian character of the Berjaya Corporation's core businesses. The symbol made up of closely interwoven B's represent their strong foundation and the constant synergy taking place within the Berjaya Corporation group of companies. Each B faces a different direction, depicting the varied strengths of the companies that make up the Berjaya Corporation group of companies. Today, Berjaya Corporation Berhad and its affiliates have a total employee strength of more than 40,000. Berjaya Strategies 1) To remain cautiously optimistic about the economy and plans to expand the group by looking at areas that do not need massive capital investment. 2) To downsize its operations as the market landscape was fraught with uncertainties. 3) To bring in partners from overseas for some of the group’s businesses by way of partnership or collaboration. 4) Consolidate the group’s operations in Malaysia and overseas. Times are difficult now but they are not bad. Malaysia is still doing very well. The government is doing a lot to pump prime the economy and create opportunities for more employment. This is good for Malaysia. 5) Berjaya Coorporation and the government should continue to work together. That would be the right thing to do in order to overcome current challenges 6) To concentrate more on the property investment and development segment. The major contributor to the pre-tax profit was the property investment and development segment, with higher sales mainly from property projects in China and Japan. Berjaya Corp is also involved in gaming and lottery management, financial services, motor trading and distribution, education, consumer market and clean technology.
7) To carry out acquisitions and sell some of its assets to bring in capital for expansion. Dispose of assets if the price is reasonable.
