So, aside from bragging rights, why on Earth would you want Linux running on your Mac?
That's easy. GIMP is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Linux design
applications. Inkscape (vector drawing) and Scribus (desktop publishing) are just a couple
great Open Source creative apps you won't find on the Mac. If you're in web design, you'll
find Linux grants you faster, more secure access to your web server.So, grab a blank disc
and roll up your sleeves. Our first step is to download and burn a 'live' CD that will allow
you to boot and play with Linux on your Mac without making any modifications to your
hard drive.Now, you won't be able to burn this image with Disk Utility, so you'll need to
download FireStarter. Now, grab the Ubuntu PPC Live ISO image from Ubuntu.com. I
picked the Ubuntu distribution over Yellow Dog for it's ease of install, active PPC support
community and PPC-specific reference.After booting (hold the "C" key during boot) you'll
be able to test-drive Ubuntu on your Mac. From my time spent on the Ubuntu PPC
boards, it seems that the only major unsupported Mac component is AirPort Extreme.
With a little research from the forums, and a run-through with the live CD you'll get an idea
of how well your Mac will run Ubuntu Linux.If you decide to make the jump to a permanent
install, you will have to repartition your drive. Scary, I know. FYI, my screenshots here are
using the KDE window environment, rather than the default GNOME.

APM event hosted by the South Wales and West of England Network (SWWE Network) Speaker: Aalok Sonawala The SWWE Regional Network were very pleased to welcome Aalok Sonawala, Head of PMO, National Programmes, Rider Levett Bucknall on 26 February, to BAWA for our first face to face event of 2025. Aalok is a member of APM��s Thames Valley Regional Network and also speaks to members of APM��s PMO Interest Network, which aims to facilitate collaboration and learning, offer unbiased advice and guidance. Tonight, Aalok planned to discuss the importance of a PMO within project-based organisations, the different types of PMO and their key elements, PMO governance and centres of excellence. PMO��s within an organisation can be centralised, hub and spoke with a central PMO with satellite PMOs globally, or embedded within projects. His first career was in broadcasting, where he designed and built commercial radio station studios in Manchester, Cardiff and Bristol, also working as a presenter and programme producer. Tim now writes and presents extensively on matters relating to the human and neurological aspects of projects, including communication, ethics and coaching. Our first step is to download and burn a 'live' CD that will allow you to boot and play with Linux on your Mac without making any modifications to your hard drive.Now, you won't be able to burn this image with Disk Utility, so you'll need to download FireStarter. Now, grab the Ubuntu PPC Live ISO image from Ubuntu.com. I picked the Ubuntu distribution over Yellow Dog for it's ease of install, active PPC support community and PPC-specific reference.After booting (hold the "C" key during boot) you'll be able to test-drive Ubuntu on your Mac. From my time spent on the Ubuntu PPC boards, it seems that the only major unsupported Mac component is AirPort Extreme. With a little research from the forums, and a run-through with the live CD you'll get an idea of how well your Mac will run Ubuntu Linux.If you decide to make the jump to a permanent install, you will have to repartition your drive. Scary, I know. FYI, my screenshots here are using the KDE window environment, rather than the default GNOME.
