Big6 Research with Aptitude!

With Big6 you will learn the right steps to take whether you  are trying to research an animal, buy a car or look for a pair of socks  on a cold morning.
Step 1 - Task Definition   or  What am I researching?    Decide what you want or need to research? What is my topic? Elephants Do I need to narrow my topic? African Elephant Elephants of the Kalahari Decide what information I need to find in order to research the right things. What questions do I have or need to find? What do I already  know  about these elephants? Food, environment, offspring, herding or loner? Are they endangered?
Step 2 - Information Seeking Strategies or  What sources can I use to find my information? Brainstorm places to look - No idea is silly  Library books Television programs Internet sites Magazines Zookeepers Choose the sources that will work best for my research. Library Books Internet sites Magazines
Step 3 - Location and Access or  Where can I find the information will work for my report? Find the sources   Use WebCat to find a book at school or another school Use the online card catalog at the Public Library to find a book Use a quality search engine such as Google to find some websites Use a magazine index to find an article that will help Decide what information will be most useful  Use the index in books Use critical thinking when deciding on a website Read the entire article in the magazine Put aside those things that won't work as well
Step 4 - Use of Information or What can I use to finish my report?  Read Read Read  Look at my questions and find answers within my sources  Extract the information Take Notes Get pictures Download articles Write my rough draft
Step 5 - Synthesis or  A fancy word for write the report  Use the sources to write my report and proof read it.  This is where I create my report and make a final copy Make sure all the information is covered   If I am missing something, go back to step 2 & 3 to see what I need to add or find Turn in my final report Make sure I have my bibliography ( I didn't write all this stuff on my own) Make sure all the requirements are met Present to my class or group or turn it in for a grade
Step 6 - Evaluation or How did I do from start to finish? How did my final report look? Did I do a good job finding information? Did I turn it in on time? Did I write a report I am proud of presenting? Did I do all the things that were needed? How did I do in researching my information? Did I find the right kind or resources? Did they have the kind of information I needed? Should I have chosen others as well? Did I use my time effectively? Did I get things done on time? How did the process help my research?
So there you have it - 6 simple steps - Each one as valuable as the last or the next. With this process, any kind of research is possible from a simple report on how animals find food to a Doctoral Thesis. Simple process Amazing results. Now - Go out and experience this for yourself!
