The  name  Bihar  is  derived  from  the  Sanskrit  word  Vihara   which  means  Monostries.It  is  rich  and fertile  land  with  a  mild  climate  and  is  crossed  by  many  major  river  including  the Ganga.

 Member of all these caste groups have occupied prominent   position in the educational and political life of the state. The land owning castes are Ahirs(yadavas), Kurmis and Koiris in    Bihar.
