Bihar is a state in Eastern India with a rich history. It has a population of over 100 million people and its capital and largest city is Patna. The state has diverse communities, celebrates festivals of both Hinduism and local tribes, and has a significant agricultural economy centered around crops like rice, wheat and sugarcane. Bihar also has some important industries and is working to develop its tourism sector by promoting historical and nature sites.
3. The name Bihar is derived from the Sanskrit word Vihara which means Monostries.It is rich and fertile land with a mild climate and is crossed by many major river including the Ganga.

10. Brahman, Bhumihar, Rajput, Banias and kayastha are dominant castes.kayasthas and Banias are the two important caste groups in the cities and town. The Banias predominate in trade and commerce.
11. Member of all these caste groups have occupied prominent position in the educational and political life of the state. The land owning castes are Ahirs(yadavas), Kurmis and Koiris in Bihar.

A monthly magazine named Bharat Ratna was started from patna in 1901.
