This document summarizes the objectives and activities of the Chinese Canadian Stories Project at the University of British Columbia. The project aims to (1) create an online portal to collect and share information about Chinese Canadian history, (2) engage Chinese Canadian communities in preserving their cultural heritage, and (3) educate students about Chinese Canadian history. The project has received federal funding and works with communities through workshops and digitizing historical documents written in Chinese characters.

Objectives of Chinese Canadian Stories ? To create a single one-stop bilingual web portal for collecting, digitally archiving, accessing and distributing information about Chinese Canadian history. ? To engage and collaborate with Communities on preserving the Chinese Canadian history and culture. ? To connect younger generations to the stories of earlier generations. ? To offer educational resources to enrich students' knowledge of Chinese Canadian History.
Community Historical Recognition Program (CHRP) ? Began in 2008 by Canadian Department of Heritage ? Chinese, South Asian, Italian, Jewish communities ? Observed that mose of the tools for collaboration were concerned with complex collecctions of roles and requriements - only designated writers could reate text, only editors could publish it, etc. A user editable website Every page has a link saying "edit text" Whenever a user edited a page, the wiki records the change and saves the previous version
