This document contains definitions for several medical terms:
- Regional anesthesia is the loss of sensation in a body region due to application of anesthetic to block all nerves in that area, such as during childbirth.
- Hypersensitivity involves abnormal increased sensitivity to sensory stimuli like sounds, tastes, and textures. It can cause behavioral issues and intense, sometimes unbearable sensations.
- Paralysis is the partial or complete loss of movement or sensation in parts of the body.
- Cardiac arrest temporarily stops heart activity, using cold and chemicals, to perform difficult heart surgeries.
- Paraplegia is impairment of motor and sensory function in the lower extremities, often from spinal cord
2. Meaning: Loss of sensation in a
region of the body produced by
application of a anesthetic agent
to all the nerves supplying that
region ( as when an epidural
anesthetic is administered to the
pelvic region during childbirth).
4. Attempts to control any pain.
It can give you amnesia to
knock out your memory.
It can reduce anxiety.
Can paralyze your muscles.
5. Meaning: Is a condition that
involves an abnormal increase
in sensitivity to stimuli of the
senses. Stimuli of the senses can
include sound that one hears,
foods that one tastes, textures
that one feels
6. It’s a condition in which someone
becomes highly sensitized to sensory
stimuli.
They may experience sensations with no
input, and may find sensory stimulation
extremely intense and sometimes almost
unbearable.
It can cause behavioral problems,
including biting, snapping, and self
mutilation.
7. You can also experience over
sensitization to hearing, smell, vision, and
taste in addition to touch.
It often manifests in the form of increased
sensitivity of the skin.
It is associated with neurological
changes and brain damage, might
occur when someone has a brain tumor,
a degenerative neurological condition,
or a neuropathy.
8. Meaning: Complete or
partial loss of function
especially when involving
the power of motion or of
sensation in any part of the
body.
10. Is the purposeful stopping of the heart
using generally cold temperature and
chemicals, so that difficult surgeries can
be performed on it.
It existed as the standard heart surgery
method for nearly four decades, there
are now many surgeons performing
heart surgeries without it.
11. Meaning: Is an impairment in
motor and/or sensory function of
the lower extremities. It is usually
the result of spinal cord injury or a
congenital condition such as
spinal bifida which affects the
neural elements of the spinal
canal.
