He engages with the private sector, government, and other stakeholders to help create business solutions to environmental and social challenges. As a consultant, he assists companies in developing sustainability strategies and reports. He has also consulted for projects related to greenhouse gas emissions, climate change adaptation, and environmental management. Previously he served as Executive Director of The Law of Nature Foundation, where he implemented community-based marine protected areas projects.

Bonar A. Laureto currently serves as the Executive Director of Philippine Business for the
Environment (PBE), a Global Network Partner of the World Business Council for Sustainable
Development (WBCSD). He engages with the private sector, government, and other key
stakeholders to help create innovative,collaborative business solutions to urgent global and local
environmental and social challenges, under WBCSD’s Action 2020 flagship Program.
As a consultant, he assists various companies – Cement, Banking and Finance, Water Utilities,
Real Estate and Conglomerates with Energy, Telecom, Electronics Manufacturing, BPO and other
businesses– developtheir Sustainability& Shared Value Strategy, as well as, prepare
Sustainability Reports using GRI Reporting Standards. He also consults for companies to
implement Cleaner Production (Energy and Materials Efficiency) and Clean FleetManagement.
He is a certified GHG Protocol Trainer and has provided trainings to more than 300 companies in
the Philippinesand in some ASEAN countries. He also developedGHG inventoriesfor electric
utilitycompanies, cement, and food manufacturing companies. He consulted for PWC to develop
a Bilateral-OffsetCredit Mechanism Framework & Financial Model for E-Tricycles.
He is involvedin a USAID project on GHG emissions industry baseline study and cost-benefit
analysis of industry mitigation options to help Philippine Government define its Intended
Nationally Determined Contributions (INDCs). He also served as the Team Leader of two World
Bank Projects – Climate Change Adaptation and Climate Change Communication in Masbate and
Sorsogon. He also served as a co-consultant for a World Bank - DSWD study on Community-
Driven Development, Climate Change Adaptation and Disaster Risk Management; for a World
Bank-funded Ozone Depleting Substances Phase-out Project; for a World-Bank-commissioned
Stocktaking Study on the Environmental Improvement Program of Laguna Lake, Pasig River and
Manila Bay; for a World Bank study on Social Inclusion and Alternative Livelihoodsfor the
Informal Waste Sector (IWS); for a UNEP policy study on Philippine Climate Change Policy; and,
for a JICA-DENR policy study on conflict between Community-Based Forestry Management
(CBFM) and Mining.
Before joining PBE, he served as Executive Director of The Law of Nature Foundation; where he
developedand implementedground-level projects such as establishment of several community-
based marine protected areas in the Philippineswhich resulted to significant increase in marine
biodiversity,increase in fishcatch and in overall quality of life of the fishermen.
Among the notable awards he received are: (1) Merck Internship Award from the Worldwide
Young Researchers for the Environment in Hannover, Germany (2000), (2) Presidential Award in
Science and Technology (2003), and Outstanding Bayer Young Environmental Envoy Alumnus
Award (2006). Mr. Laureto graduated cum laude in BS Biology, took some coursework on
Environment and Natural Resources Management at UP-Open University and on Natural Capital
at Yale University.
For leisure,he bikes, plays badminton, divesand helps poor fishing communities restore their
reefs.
