A stanza is a poetic verse or chorus that can consist of couplets, tercets, or quatrains. Couplets have two rhyming lines, tercets have three lines that may or may not rhyme, and quatrains have four lines that may or may not rhyme. Poetry also uses meter, rhyme schemes, and couplets to give structure. Meter refers to the pattern of syllables in each line, a rhyme scheme is the pattern of rhyming lines, and a couplet has two lines that rhyme at the end.
