Learning-Centered Teaching in Healthcare is a class to expand my knowledge on learning
theories in conjunction with how they can apply within the practice of healthcare. This
class will impart the knowledge and skills to help and encourage nurses who wish to take
part in educating future nurses. My personal goals are to do just that increase my
knowledge and become knowledgeable in the field of nursing education.
Gaining the knowledge of all the courses learning objectives
1. Establish a foundation for teaching grounded in educational theory
2. Implement innovative teaching strategies appropriate to learner needs
3. Articulate the value of student/faculty socialization
4. Evaluate the empirical evidence on using teaching practices to improve learning
outcomes.
I hope to be able to apply this knowledge first and foremost at my current place of
employment, by improvement in my bedside education. A future goal is to use this
knowledge to complete other education classes to complete my CNE component and build
upon my FNP, thus to hold a future position in the profession of nurse educator and to
better educate the patients for which I will treat. Ultimately, I would love to expand this
basic knowledge of education globally, increasing knowledge of healthcare, improving
health, and beginning healthcare reform for developing countries and cultures.
SO my specific goals for this class would be
1) To improve my knowledge of the theories of nursing education and how they can be
used or how they apply to the current world in which we live
2) To gain as much knowledge about cultural education, it barriers, and how to
eliminate these barriers
3) How to make effective tools for education, what works and does not work, how to
assess effectively ones learning style and how to educate these learning styles
effectively
