BOOK REVIEW OF
2 STATES-THE STORY OF MY
MARRIAGE
-Yagnesh Virani
This bookis written byChetan Bhagat.
ChetanBhagat is born 22thapril1974.
He iscompleted his studyin IIT Delhi & IIM
Ahmedabad.
If youre in love and you wantto see everyone
smilingonthe big day of your life, you must go for
Chetan Bhagatslatest novel Two States it may
justbe a rehearsalto your marriage.
Two statesis an awesome journeyfrom a
friendshipto a marriage.
The novel followsthe livesof two characters,
Ananya & Krish, belonging to differentstates-
Chennai & Delhi respectively.
When their path crossesfor the first time atIIM
Ahmedabad , Ananya is fightingwiththe canteen
fellowover unhygienic food, andKrish instantly
fallsin love with thisgorgeous ladyover a bowl of
rasgullas.
Firstisaboutthe twoprotagonistsfallingin love
at the hostel.
Life is great for them untiltheir families meet each
other.
Youwillbe entertainedby the incredible humour
ingrainedin this part.
Secondisa very cute Krishconvincinghis
Tamilianin-lawsby crossinga lotof hurdlesfor
the sake of his beloved love.
The thirdphase isaboutthe faircomplexioned
MadrasiAnanya, a corporate lady wooingPunjabi
familieswithhost ofconfidence & wit.
The lastcorner is obviouslythe big event of their
life, their ultimate bonding - Marriage.
The story is aboutmiddle class aspirationwith a
lots of humors & ultimatelyan excellentproduct.
I am simply awed bythe characterization
portrayed withthe right proportionof emotion.
One can visualizethe entire story to suchan
extent that itmakes a reader feel that this is
happeningin their life.
There is a lotof empathy you can feel with these
very real characters.
The intensityand the beautifuldescriptionabout
the contrastmarriages (Punjabi& Tamilian)
makes his novel even more attractive.
The language is subtitled,readable,interesting,
and allthe more hilariouswith some reallygood
similesand metaphors & very much educational.
Cross culture marriagesare stillunacceptablein
our society, even though we are livingin the
worldsgreatest culture.
As rightly acknowledgedin the novel, when we
accept a familyof a different culturewe are
addingvalue to our existingones.
Speakingfor myself, I liked Chetansbook andall
the issuesof socialstigma raisedin the bookis
quite relevant.
At the endwe all belong toonly one state & thats
INDIA.
Thank You
