This document summarizes key findings from the 2006 study "Hiding in Plain Sight: Higher Education Pink and Blue Collar Staff Experiences as Returning Adult Learners, Workers, and Family Members" by Susan J. Bracken and Jeanie K. Allen. The study examined the experiences of non-faculty staff at universities who were also returning adult students. It found that these staff felt overlooked, unrecognized, and undervalued in their roles. Taking on student roles improved their self-esteem and excitement but also created challenges with managing work, school, and family responsibilities. Their work environments were sometimes unsupportive and coworkers were unaware of educational policies.
