Breast cancer is caused by genetic mutations in cells that can be influenced by environmental factors like diet and lifestyle. Adopting a whole-food, plant-based diet with lots of raw foods and supplements like vitamin D and omega-3s can significantly reduce the risk of gene mutations that cause breast cancer by up to 8 times. Other low-risk lifestyle changes include exercising regularly, maintaining a healthy weight, avoiding alcohol and smoking, having children, and minimizing radiation exposure and hormone therapy. Making sustainable baby step changes to prioritize prevention is empowering for long-term holistic health.

Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers in women. Several factors can increase a woman's risk of developing breast cancer, including family history, lifestyle factors like obesity and lack of exercise, and hormonal influences. Regular screening through self-exams and mammograms can help detect breast cancer early when it is most treatable. Diet and nutrition also play an important role, as certain foods and dietary patterns may promote inflammation and increase cancer risk, while others provide protective antioxidants.

Breast cancer is an alarming point for women, many of us accepting we worry more about developing breast cancer than we do heart disease ¡ª the main enemy of women. However, similarly as with heart disease, we can altogether decrease the danger of specific kinds of breast cancers on the off chance that we just change to healthier habits.
Breast cancer is an uncontrolled growth of breast cells that can be caused by genetic or lifestyle factors. The document discusses the stages of breast cancer from Stage 0 (no cancer cells outside of where they started) to Stage 4 (cancer has spread to other organs). Symptoms may include changes in how the breast feels or looks or nipple discharge. Treatment options include surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, hormonal therapy, and targeted therapy. Making lifestyle changes like a healthy diet, exercise, limiting alcohol, and getting enough sleep can help reduce breast cancer risk. Raising awareness of breast cancer is important for early detection and treatment.
Many common myths about cancer are untrue. Cancer is not contagious, though some viruses and bacteria can cause cancers. Biopsies are very unlikely to cause cancer to spread. While family history increases cancer risk, it does not guarantee someone will develop cancer. Recent treatment advances have resulted in fewer side effects. Positive thinking can improve quality of life for cancer patients but does not affect cancer itself. No cures are being hidden and cancer is not always a death sentence as survival rates have improved for many types of cancer.

This document discusses the economics of shale gas production in the US. It notes that shale gas wells produce less gas than conventional wells but have similar or higher costs. However, shale gas wells have a faster production decline profile, meaning the investment is recovered more quickly through production. As a result, it is more profitable for companies to continuously invest in new shale gas wells to sustain production levels, despite the ongoing costs. This business model leaves the industry reliant on a high rate of new drilling to offset declines, creating risks if drilling activity decreases.

Excellent presentation on cancer
A book written by Professor Richard Beliveau and Dr Denis Ginger on ¡°foods to fight cancer¡± have the following findings:
Statistic shows that one out of three people is affected by cancer before the age of 75
This represents 12 per cent of all reported deaths on Earth.
However, fear not, there is hope.
1) Cancer presents a major threat, affecting 1 in 3 people by age 75. However, lifestyle factors like diet can play a major role in preventing cancer, with poor eating habits linked to about 30% of cancers.
2) Consuming fruits and vegetables supplies the body with anticancer compounds that can prevent tumor growth and development. Certain foods like cabbage, garlic, onions, soy, green tea, berries, and citrus fruits contain powerful phytochemicals and antioxidants.
3) Adopting a diet with these anticancer foods, avoiding smoking, limiting red meat and processed foods, and maintaining a healthy weight and regular exercise can significantly reduce cancer risks. Prevention is possible through lifestyle and dietary changes.
This document discusses the link between diet and cancer prevention. It notes that statistics show 1 in 3 people will develop cancer before age 75, representing 12% of deaths globally. However, lifestyle factors like diet can play a major role in preventing cancer, as poor eating habits account for 30% of cancer cases. Certain foods contain anticancer compounds that can reduce cancer risk, such as cabbage, garlic, onions, soy, green tea, berries, citrus fruits, dark chocolate, and fatty fish. Adopting a diet with these foods represents one of the best ways to fight cancer currently available. The choice to modify one's diet for health is up to the individual.
1) One third of cancers are linked to poor dietary habits, so improving one's diet can play a major role in preventing cancer.
2) Eating a diet high in fruits and vegetables provides anticancer compounds that can help prevent tumors from developing and growing. Specifically, cruciferous vegetables, garlic, onions, soy, green tea, berries, fatty fish and citrus fruits contain phytochemicals and other compounds that block carcinogens and cancer cell growth.
3) Making lifestyle changes like quitting smoking, exercising regularly, and choosing whole, minimally processed foods over supplements provides the greatest cancer prevention benefits according to research on anticancer compounds in food.
Maintaining a healthy weight through diet and exercise can significantly lower cancer risk. Obesity is linked to increased risk of various cancers like breast, colon, and kidney cancer. Losing weight helps reduce cancer risk by lowering hormone and inflammation levels in the body. Getting adequate vitamin D and K through diet and supplements may also provide cancer protective effects.
1) The document provides age-defying tips and discusses factors that influence longevity, including cardiovascular health, flexibility, diet, sleep, and genes.
2) It emphasizes the importance of regular aerobic exercise, stretching, getting sufficient sleep, and maintaining a low-fat, high-fiber diet to reduce cancer risks and promote overall health.
3) The document recommends specific dietary substitutions like reducing red meat and increasing fiber intake through foods like whole grains, fruits, and vegetables to help prevent cancer development and recurrence.
1) One third of cancers are linked to poor dietary habits, so improving one's diet can play a major role in preventing cancer.
2) Eating fruits and vegetables high in antioxidants and phytochemicals like cabbage, broccoli, garlic, onions, soy, green tea, berries, citrus fruits, and dark chocolate can help prevent cancer by blocking carcinogens and the growth of cancer cells.
3) Adopting a diet low in red meat and processed foods while exercising regularly and quitting smoking can further reduce cancer risks.
This document discusses modifiable risk factors for cancer and provides recommendations. It covers 5 topics: 1) The dangers of excess fruit and vegetables due to pesticides and nitrates. Recommendation is to wash produce thoroughly. 2) Risks of certain contaminated fish high in pollutants like mercury. Recommendation is to remove skin/innards and favor bottom-feeding fish. 3) Red meat is not inherently risky if cooked properly and blood is drained to reduce iron and nitrates. 4) Milk consumption for men over 50 may increase prostate cancer risk so limit intake and choose fermented options. 5) Cooking oils produce carcinogens at high heat so avoid over-frying foods. Overall fats are not inherently
Lifestyle choices such as smoking, diet, exercise, and weight significantly impact cancer risk. Smoking remains the leading preventable cause of cancer, responsible for over 180,000 lung cancer cases annually in the US alone. Maintaining a healthy diet with fruits and vegetables helps prevent cancer by providing antioxidants, while obesity increases the risk of several cancers. Engaging in regular, vigorous exercise is also linked to reduced cancer occurrence. Adopting a lifestyle that incorporates not smoking, healthy eating, physical activity and maintaining a healthy weight can help prevent many types of cancer.
Cancer is the most evil of illnesses. It has only objective - to finish you off in the fastest time possible. And it usually succeeds.
But the reality is that in many cases, cancer does not find us. We invite cancer, by doing things we should not be doing...
1) Cancer presents a major health threat, with statistics showing 1 in 3 people will be affected by cancer before age 75.
2) However, lifestyle factors like diet play a large role in cancer prevention, with poor eating habits linked to about 30% of cancers.
3) Consuming fruits and vegetables rich in antioxidants and phytochemicals can help prevent cancer by fighting cancerous cells and inhibiting tumor growth, as these foods contain anticancer compounds. Eating a diet focused on these foods can potentially reduce cancer risk by 30%.
1. "Your biopsy tests positive for breast cancer." These is a sentence feared by all women. In 1971
President Nixon declared war on cancer. Since then billions of dollars have been spent on fighting
cancer. It seems the only arsenal this war has come up with are the antiquated weapons of poison,
slash and burn. There is still no cure. Very little of the money used for the war on cancer is used for
cancer prevention. Yet it is far easier to prevent cancer than to cure it.
Cancer is a systemic disease. This means that even if the cancer has manifested itself in your
breast tissue, the actual problem is system wide. Because of this, breast cancer can't be prevented
solely by specifics. It requires an entire lifestyle change.
Having said that, there are number of changes you can make to your lifestyle that will reduce your
risk of getting breast cancer (and all other cancers). I have chosen, what I consider to be, the most
effective to share with you.
Before I list them for you, it would be helpful for you to understand what cancer actually is. Jane
Plant, "Your Life in Your Hands", describes cancer as "Cells behaving badly." Our cells operate under
the control of the genes in our DNA. These cells grow and divide in a controlled way to produce
more cells as they are needed to keep the body healthy. When cells become old or damaged, they
die and are replaced with new cells.
However, sometimes this orderly process goes wrong. The DNA of a cell can become damaged or
changed, producing mutations that affect normal cell growth and division. When this happens, cells
do not die when they should and new cells form when the body does not need them. These mutated
cells thrive in an anaerobic environment and get their energy from metabolic waste. The extra cells
may form a mass of tissue called a tumour.
By definition, a cancer cell is a normal, healthy cell that has undergone genetic mutation to the point
that it can live in an anaerobic surrounding (an environment where oxygen is not available). In
other words, if you deprive a group of cells of vital oxygen (their primary source of energy), some of
them will die, but others will manage to alter their genetic software program and mutate in a most
2. resourceful way: the cells will be able to live without oxygen and derive some of their energy needs
from such things as cellular metabolic waste products.
Only five to ten percent of all breast cancers are due to genetic predisposition and over 70% of all
gene mutations are caused by environmental factors. This puts you in a very powerful position to
be able to significantly reduce your risk of the gene mutations that cause breast cancer.
I have listed the suggestions starting with the most important and most effective:
Eat a whole-food, plant-based diet with lots of raw foods: Diet is the most prevalent cause of genetic
mutation. It can also provide the greatest protection against cancer. But which diet? Studies carried
out by Dr Dean Ornish show that our blood has powerful anti-cancer compounds. That's a good
thing. Even those on a Standard American Diet (SAD) have blood that fights cancer. However, the
blood of vegans (those who consume no animal products what-so-ever) decreased cancer growth
by nearly 8 times over the blood of those consuming the Standard American Diet. Another study
conducted at Loma Linda University found that vegans have 34% lower rates of breast cancer to
other women. Other dietary factors include: sugar consumption processed foods, gluten, chemical
additives, transfats and over-eating.
Give up drinking alcohol: One alcoholic drink per day increases your risk of getting breast cancer by
seven to ten percent. Not only that but breast cancer survivors who consume three to four drinks a
week increase their risk of a recurrence by 34%.
Give up smoking: Although smoking is usually associated with lung cancer, the carcinogens in
cigarettes affect the whole system. Women who smoke are 24 times more likely to get breast
cancer. The risk doubles if those women start smoking before having their first baby and increases
to 61 times more likely if they start smoking before their first mentrual period.
Engage in a high level of physical activity: Women who exercise for more than three hours a week
reduce their risk of breast cancer by 25%.
3. As many breast cancers are estrogen dependent, it
makes sense to minimise your exposure to estrogen. Two studies published in 2002 and 2003 link
HRT to a higher incidence of breast cancer.
Supplement wisely: Three quarters of all women with breast cancer are vitamin D deficient.
Maintaining optimal vitamin D levels decreases your risk by 45%. Ensure your vitamin D levels are
optimal through regular blood tests and if they're not take a supplement. Those with diets rich in
DHA Omega 3 fatty acids are two thirds less likely to get breast cancer. We usually think of fish for
our Omega 3. But flaxseeds have shown special protective factors due to their content of dietary
lignans, a class of phytoestrogens, which have an anti-estrogen effect. Conversly, artificial folic acid
(in the form of supplements) has been shown to increase a woman's risk of breast cancer. So obtain
all your follic acid from natural, food sources - green leafy vegetables.
Watch your weight: Obesity is said to be the primary cause of 17% of all breast cancers, especially
after menopause. Luckily, if you follow the dietary and exercise suggestions listed here, reaching
and maintaining a healthy weight is easy.
Don't fry or grill foods: Cooking at high temperatures without water or steam creates acrylamides
in carbohydrate foods (eg.chips) and heterocyclic amines in meat (especially chicken). Both these
substances are highly carcinogenic.
Have two or more children and breast feed them for up to two years each: When we are pregnant
and breast feeding we are exposed to lower levels of estrogen, which in turn, lowers our risk of
breast cancer.
Avoid unnecessay radiation: This includes radiation caused by imaging tests, such as xrays
(including mammograms), CT scans, PET scans and bone scans. Remember that mammograms are
not preventative and cumulative radiation exposure over a person's life time includes exposure
from this breast cancer detection tool. Alternatives to mammograms, that are not publised or
encouraged by the medical profession for breast cancer detection, include: thermography, MRI and
ultrasound. If you are serious about preventing breats cancer, this is something you should look
into and discuss with your doctor.
My hope is that these suggestions will not overwhelm you but empower you to start making
changes and keep making them.
4. Remember that permanent change is best accomplished with baby steps. This is what holistic
health coaching can help you with by providing information, encouragement and accountability to
keep you moving forwards towards your health goals.
