This document discusses resources at three levels - regional, local, and intimate - within the area of Bronte, Sicily.
At the regional level, it notes the two nearby parks, Etna Park and Nebrodi Park, as well as transportation infrastructure like roads and railways. Locally, it examines landscape elements like the woods, pistachio fields, olive lands, and the Simeto River. At the intimate level, it describes features along the river like bridges, a farm, and geological units.
The document proposes two conceptual paths. The Green Path would link the two regional parks through the woods and along the river, featuring different landscapes. The Blue Path would create a linear park along the

THEHISTORICALMAP
Set along the Simeto river, which is the biggest Sicilian watercourse, the protected area lies in
the territories of Centuripe, Bronte, Adrano and Randazzo, with a surface area of about 291
hectares, with a full 285 in Zone A, the area of maximum protection.
The protected area was included in the plan to conserve and safeguard the long succession of
lava tunnels, with waterfalls, rapids, little lakes and gorges that the Simeto river has created
as it runs between the basaltic lavas of an old Etna flow.
In this wild environment, there is a very specialised plant community, capable of surviving
spates and summer heat, goats' bites and winter frost, giving shelter to a rare and specialised
fauna. The collared grass-snake, the green lizard and Wagler's lizard warm themselves in the

Bronte is a town of low mountain, at 768 m on the sea level,
with warm and wet climate influenced by a southern airstream
coming from the sea. The average quantity of rainwater is 600
700 mm per year. There are different kinds of rocks in the site,
starting by the youngest to the oldest, we have:
- Alluvioni attuali e recenti (new current flood)
- Alluvioni terrazzate continentali e marine (terraced marine
flood)
- Lave dei centri eruttivi alcalini (volcanic alcaline lava rocks)
- Flysch Numidico
Most of the rocks in our part are lava,
with a very high permeability. The
permeability in this rocks is due
essentially by a crowded net of breaks.
This high permeability in the surface
rocks give a fast drainage, avoiding the
surface erosion.
The studied area is stable for the
breaking strength of surface rocks, that
with their high porosity doesnt allow
stagnancy of surface water.
