Major recent events included: Bank of America SYEP Check Presentation (July 20,2017): The Bank of America Charitable Foundation awarded a $31,800 grant to Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County in support of CareerSource Broward¡¯s eight-week Summer Youth Employment Program. City of Ft. Lauderdale Mayor Jack Seiler, City of Hollywood Mayor Josh Levy, and City of Pembroke Pines Mayor Frank Ortis accepted the check from Bank of America Market President Lori Chevy at the Marti Huizenga Club. ICABA Business At Breakfast Event (Aug.10,2017): CareerSource Broward attended the ICABA Black Business Development Public Policy Breakfast to participate in a dialouge related to employer services and entrepreneurship. Guest panelists at the event included Broward County Administration Bertha Henry,Greater Ft.Lauderdale Alliance President/CEO Bob Swindell, and Broward County Office of Economic and Small Business Development Director Sandy-Michael E.McDonald. Broward Digital Divide Orientation Session (Aug.14,2017): CareerSource Broward teamed up with Broward County to launch the Digital Divide initiative ¨C a program designed to help connect residents to digital resources by providing them with free electronic tablets for up to six months. The tablets were pre-loaded with links to CareerSource Broward¡¯s website, as well as information on workforce development and career training. -B.P.,CSBDCustomer ¡°Forthefirsttimein32years,Ifoundmyselfinthepositionofseekingemployment.Ihadnotwrittenaresumeinoverthree decades,and I knew it was time for me to brush up on my interviewing skills. The professional workshops I attended at CareerSource Broward were phenomenal and filled with so much relevant information.An interviewer was so impressed with my new revised resume and interview skills that he offered me a full-time position, and I was even able to use the negotiationtechniqueIlearnedattheworkshoptonegotiate$3,000moreayearthanwhatwasoriginallyoffered!¡± CareerSource Broward provided re-employment services to more than 1,650 individuals affected by mass layoffs. From January through September 2017, CareerSource Broward conducted 447 recruitment events, involving 198 employers. "As an employer, we struggled for quite some time trying to recruit talent and pay for new employee training.Since2015,thededicatedteamatCareerSource Broward has assisted us with finding hardworking and qualified candidates,and even offered financial support to offset some of our training costs. Thanks to CareerSource Broward, we¡¯ve been able to hire five new employees who have become great additions to our team!
