The Komodo dragon is the largest lizard in the world, found on several Indonesian islands. It can grow up to 3 meters long and weigh over 160 kg. Komodo dragons hunt prey as large as water buffalo using a venomous bite and then tracking the weakening prey over long distances. Their venom contains over 50 types of bacteria that cause blood thinning and organ failure in victims. Though not generally aggressive towards humans, their bites can prove deadly. There are estimated to be around 5,000 Komodo dragons remaining in the wild, placing them at risk of extinction.
