This document provides information on the BTU content of various fuels. It lists the BTUs in coal, electricity, oil, gas, butane, propane, and natural gas. Coal contains 10,000-15,000 BTUs per pound and 25,000,000 BTUs per ton. Electricity contains 3.412 BTUs per watt. Different types of oil contain between 136,000 and 152,000 BTUs per gallon. Butane, propane, and natural gas contain varying amounts of BTUs depending on whether measured by pound, gallon, or cubic foot.
