Sirni Zagovezni, also known as Shrove Sunday, was a beloved winter holiday that marked the beginning of Lent. It always fell seven weeks before Easter. People would gather juniper branches and have big bonfires where they would play, dance, sing songs, and have fun until late into the night. My grandfather fondly remembers this custom from his childhood as one of his most valuable memories. It was an important tradition where the community could socialize and the children could play before the fasting period of Lent began.

1. Sirni Zagovezni - Shrove Sunday
Grandfather once told me about the holiday "First Sunday before Lent". Sirni
Zagovezni - Shrove Sunday - was one of the best loved festivals coming at the close of
winter. It always fell on the Sunday just seven weeks before Easter, marking the
beginning of the Great Lent, the longest period of fasting throughout preparation for this
celebration is performed weeks earlier.
At this time of year
crocuses flourished, which
the been having candles in
the meadows.
Was nice, the birds singing in
the trees and bunnies ran on
the green grass.
Santa was very pleased to be
able to collect juniper with
other children and men.
Evening all went to sleep.
The fire remained the oldest
man to keep juniper.
Because there was a danger
that someone from another
neighborhood to steal the
collected juniper.
The next day all the children
and my grandfather gathered
around juniper and light it.
Such a nice blazing fire and
flamed. All the people began
to play, to have fun, to dance
and sing nice songs. Santa
was very happy that the fire
can jump and play with other
children until late at night.
My grandfather fondly remembers this custom because it is one of the most valuable
memories of childhood.
Two to three weeks, drove two cars juniper. Juniper put in a place where it will
be Garrett. My grandfather along with other children made firecrackers then they used
matches, refill tubes with gunpowder and put in the fire. It was a dangerous game.
Luckily for us there was no accident. After was done Garrett begin to play and people
sing songs. One of the issues that had to be decided about when to have Kindle Garrett.
The children we wanted Garrett to be lit earlier, and old They wanted it to be lit later.
The next day the school children were arguing which one Garrett was bigger and a
longer has been burnt. Every young man fired the bow made a burning dart in the yard
of girl which you liked.
My grandfather said it was important to have friends and be good. In my heart I
keep all the good memories when you were really happy.
