Covered topics include:
- RDF - a flexible data model to represent heterogeneous data
- OWL - a flexible ontological language to model heterogeneous data sources
- SPARQL - a query language for RDF.
It shows how to put all the pieces together in order to achieve interoperability among heterogeneous information sources
3. Time
The third part covers the realm of temporal-dependent data. The topics covered here allow to treat the "velocity" dimension of Big Data. It shows the importance for many Big Data analysis scenarios to process data stream, coming for instance from Internet of Things (IoT) and Social Media sources; and it describes how to apply semantic and syntactic techniques in the context of time-dependent information. For instance, it shows how to extend RDF to model RDF streams, how to extend SPARQL to continuously process RDF streams and how to reason on those RDF Streams
4. Applications
In the fourth part, the course focuses on specific application scenarios and presents the typical settings and problems where the presented techniques can be applied. This part discusses settings such as: big data analysis for smart cities; data analytics for brand monitoring (marketing) and event monitoring; data analysis for trend detection and user engagement; and so on.

- 1. Evolution or Revolution? As technology evolves, it becomes more and more harmonious. When you take into account that television, telecommunications, computing, internet, gaming and even transportation technology were about as harmonious as a guitar with rusty strings, its hard to believe how far those technologies have come. Today we can listen to music, navigate social media and the internet, talk to friends and family, and utilize satellite technology all without having to take our hands off of the steering wheel in our car which could begin to drive themselves in the very near future. While technology becomes more and more harmonious across the board, we have to ask ourselves what the next frontier of breakthrough technology will be. Our generation has already found the limits of silicon technology, and tech companies are dumping billions of dollars into R&D to discover new mediums to make tech run more quickly and efficiently. But what if the next stage in tech evolution isnt synthetic at all? What if its organic? In 2008 Fred Fandrich, cofounder of a German company named Blasticon, announced that they were able to successfully reprogram blood cells. What exactly does this mean? By injecting long strands of DNA directly into the cell, it changes the cell into an entirely different species. But what exactly does this mean in terms of technological advancement? By implementing this method, companies could reprogram cells to create textiles, fuels, medicines and even use them for data storage (Enriques, R. 2009. Para 3). And while most people would gravitate towards the research that utilizes this process to do things such as grow a new trachea for a tuberculosis patient, or to regrow an amputated limb, other entities such as Intel and AMD are already turning their heads toward biological technology to replace the silicon of yesterday. Indeed, the potential applications for reprogramming cells are vast and with technology working together in unity more and more each day, we have to ask ourselves if the next step is for technology to not only be a part of humanity, but a piece of it? And yes, that was a mouthful. And also, yes, it is a dry read.)
