International standards are being developed for marine and hydrokinetic renewable energy. Key issues in developing these standards include taking a phased and systems approach to conformity assessment, applying risk assessment to conformity assessment, and determining roles for first, second, and third party certification. Documentation needs to provide clear roadmaps and interim documentation. Recommendations will be made to technical committees regarding specifications, standards, and terminology.
