Fins quan haurem d'esperar a Ciutadella per a tenir un pediatra a "Urgencies"?

El passat divendres 1 d'abril el meu fill de 2 anys va patir una convulsió febril. Assustats
per lo aparatós què pot arribar a ser i veient que el fillet no responia a res i de cada
vegada la cara se li estava posant de color lilós vam córrer cap a urgències al Canal
Salat. Ens van atendre de seguida (cosa que agraeixo moltíssim). Vam haver d'esperar
més d'una hora fins que no va sortir el metge a informar-nos de l'estat del fillet. De
primer moment ens van dir que havia estat una convulsió febril, que se li havia
administrat medicació i que en aquests moments estava sedat. Em van dir que quan
pogués passar ja m’avisarien. Passat gairebé una altra hora va tornar a sortir el metge i
ens va dir que ja estava estabilitzat, que en breu em deixarien passar però que ens
enviareien al Mateu Orfila per tenir-lo en observació. Al cap d’uns minuts vam fer el
trasllat amb el 061. El moment d’entrar i sortir de l’ambulancia van ser els únics en el
que vaig veure al meu fill. Quan vam arribar a Maó, el van entrar tot d’una a urgències.
Al cap d’una estona (és difícil en aquests moments saber el temps real perque per poc
que sigui et sembla una eternitat), tal vegada havien passat uns 40 minuts va venir el
pediatra a informar-mos que es fillet estava en un estat molt baix de consciencia, ens va
fer unes quantes preguntes i ens va dir que li farien un TAC. Més tard ens van venir a
cercar per dir-mos que es fillet l’havien duit a UCI directament després de fer-li el TAC
i ens van dur a una sala d’espera al costat d’UCI. Ja eren poc més de les 14h quan es va
presentar el metge d’UCI que atenia al fillet i ens va tornar a dir que tenia un estat molt
baix de consciencia i que degut a que encara patia convulsions i vomits era necessari
intubar-lo (respiració assistida) i fer-li una puncio lumbar per descartar possibles
malalties com meningitis, … A la vegada ens van comunicar que estaven en contacte
amb UCI de Son Espases per si era necessari fer un trasllat urgent. Ens van dir que de
seguida que fós posible ens deixarien passar a veure’r-lo. Ja devien ser gairebé les 17h
de la tarda quan finalment ens van donar un diagnòstic: el meu fill estava en coma. Amb
l’analítica havien detectat que els nivells de fenitoina (un medicament que s’utilitza per
aturar les convulsions en cas d’epilepsia) triplicaven els que hauria de tenir el meu fill
pel seu pes i edat. En principi, si no hi havia res de nou quan se li passàs l’efecte
d’aquesta medicació es fillet es recuperaría ara només quedava esperar. Per sort, així va
ser, al dia següent quan vam arribar a UCI a les 9h el metge ens va comunicar que a les
7h del matí li havien llevat la medicació que el mantenía sedat per veure com
reaccionava i respirava i que tot havia anat bé i li havien llevat la respiració assistida
però que seguiría a UCI unes hores en observació fins que per la tarda el visités un
pediatra i es decidís si podía pujar a planta. Us faig saber que a les 19h del capvespre
pujavem a planta i a partir d’aquí lentament es va anar recuperant dels efectes de la
medicació fins que el dimecres ens van donar l’alta metge de l’Hospital Mateu Orfila.
Pel que hem sabut més tard, la sobredosi no es va produir per un excés de medicació
sino en la manera en que li va ser administrada que sí es fa ver 3 vegades més ràpid del
que hauria d’haver estat.
Tot ha quedat en un susto molt gros i per sort n’Iker ja està bé. Ara se li hauràn de fer
una sèrie de proves per detectar si aquesta medicació ha danyat colque cosa o tot
funciona amb normalitat.

Mental health has been in the news quite a bit lately. Dozens of U.S. states are currently suing Meta for contributing to the youth mental health crisis by inserting addictive features into their products, while the U.S. Surgeon General is touring the nation to bring awareness to the growing epidemic of loneliness and isolation. The country has endured periods of low national morale, such as in the 1970s when high inflation and the energy crisis worsened public sentiment following the Vietnam War. The current mood, however, feels different. Gallup recently reported that national mental health is at an all-time low, with few bright spots to lift spirits. To better understand how Americans are feeling and their attitudes towards mental health in general, ThinkNow conducted a nationally representative quantitative survey of 1,500 respondents and found some interesting differences among ethnic, age and gender groups. Technology For example, 52% agree that technology and social media have a negative impact on mental health, but when broken out by race, 61% of Whites felt technology had a negative effect, and only 48% of Hispanics thought it did. While technology has helped us keep in touch with friends and family in faraway places, it appears to have degraded our ability to connect in person. Staying connected online is a double-edged sword since the same news feed that brings us pictures of the grandkids and fluffy kittens also feeds us news about the wars in Israel and Ukraine, the dysfunction in Washington, the latest mass shooting and the climate crisis. Hispanics may have a built-in defense against the isolation technology breeds, owing to their large, multigenerational households, strong social support systems, and tendency to use social media to stay connected with relatives abroad. Age and Gender When asked how individuals rate their mental health, men rate it higher than women by 11 percentage points, and Baby Boomers rank it highest at 83%, saying it’s good or excellent vs. 57% of Gen Z saying the same. Gen Z spends the most amount of time on social media, so the notion that social media negatively affects mental health appears to be correlated. Unfortunately, Gen Z is also the generation that’s least comfortable discussing mental health concerns with healthcare professionals. Only 40% of them state they’re comfortable discussing their issues with a professional compared to 60% of Millennials and 65% of Boomers. Race Affects Attitudes As seen in previous research conducted by ThinkNow, Asian Americans lag other groups when it comes to awareness of mental health issues. Twenty-four percent of Asian Americans believe that having a mental health issue is a sign of weakness compared to the 16% average for all groups. Asians are also considerably less likely to be aware of mental health services in their communities (42% vs. 55%) and most likely to seek out information on social media (51% vs. 35%).
